Will be 21 at start of next season with minimal senior game time under his belt, would surprise me if he makes it in a top league and as a regular for us.

How's Ryan Burke getting on Tom ?

I'd be hopeful he will be a Championship regular at worst. The point about his age is well made but there are close to 2vyears lost from the leg fracture and spinal stress fracture. To come through both those is a credit to the lad. I think he will be the force driving that 21s

Could have a new manager soon. Reports that Julen Lopetegui is in talks with Wolves owners about terminating his contract. Gary O'Neill linked with the job if Lopetegui does leave.

Manager gone officially it seems. Bad news for Hodge, i suspect the incoming manager won’t give him the opportunities he has already been afforded

Bringing up a comment with a clear caveat. Nice let’s see how Hodge ends up

Might be good news for Hodge. Lopetegui didnt play him all 2nd half of last season. New manager might like him more! Glass half full Tommy ;)

Love the optimism! Just don’t see a new manager coming in giving him a chance, wolves are surely one of the relegation favorites next year. Joe didn’t exactly impress much during any of his premier league appearances to justify being able to contribute meaningfully from the get go.

20 year old didn't make immediate impact in Premiership shocker!

He was still given a 5 year contract by them so they must have seen something in him. Time will tell, I've seen him do ok in some games so we can only hope he improves as most would tend to do at his age. I just don't know why you'd immediately say a new manager would be bad for him when the previous one didn't play him, doesn't make much sense to me

If Wolves midfield continue to play like they did last night, Hodge is getting little to none game time. I know its a small sample size but just can't see him getting anywhere near any meaningful gametime.

I don't necessarily think its a negative thing as I believe he would benefit more from a loan move to a decent squad and regular appearances.

Issue with that is he's one of five senior midfielders so unlikely to go anywhere unless they allow O'Neill to bring in someone. Given their transfer business so far it's unlikely O'Neill will be bringing anyone in and could have been told to work with what he has.

Agree, that was my thought watching the game too. They are very strong and athletic in midfield, I didnt see where Hodge would even fit the style of play. Doherty will struggle to get in ahead of Semedo too

But they are short on midfielders with only himself and traore as cover for the 3 that played. Cundle slightly older than hodge who was on loan at Swansea last season has been let join plymouth on loan. Hodge will get games

Youre right, and sometimes 1st game of the season is hard to take too much from but their athleticism was noticeable.

I agree nunes, lemina and gomes are far superior to any midfielders we have had since keane retired so hodge is fighting against quality players to get a game. My point about cundle was that at some stage you have to actually compete with top players if you want to play in the Premier league going out on loan like he did last year is no guarantee that the next season you are at Premier league level as obviously cundle isn't so was sent out again to the championship

Hope he stays fit and gets decent game time, slightly worrying that they've also signed Isaac Hayden who plays a similar position to Hodge.

They are in a scrap in the championship so hopefully goes well. I really think he has the tools to be a success at championship level

Yeah their league position worries me slightly. That Hodge might struggle in a team that's suffering in form. Their joint top scorer in the league is the LB.

Though important thing for him is staying fit while playing regular game time. Which he's got a better chance of doing at QPR at least. Though they've also brought Isaac Hayden in who plays the same position as Hodge.

Quite an accolade for Joe that the barnstorming Armstrong could nt get you to Loftus road but Joe can

Looks like the plan is for QPR to play him in a more advanced midfield role than we're used to seeing him in.

Great to see him get a good start. We certainly haven't used him as an attacking midfielder. Trying to anchor a midfield with man city youths when Cole palmer was your partner was definitely not an equal sharing of defensive and offensive duties.

Took that goal really well

I've watched the last 2 qpr games. Hodge has settled in well I think. Playing in the most advanced of a 3 in midfield with colback and hayden deeper and chair and smyth/willock wide and Armstrong up front. Looks very comfortable off both feet, passing forward at every opportunity, good in tight spaces, biting into tackles and prepared to have a shot. Covers the ground very well and size not really an issue now. Armstrong a good bit off it still i think mcnally owned him tonight. As an aside qpr s 2 fullbacks are truly woeful

Just needs a season of regular football at this point. Hasn't played near enough senior football for a lad who is almost 22.

Yeah main thing is getting regular minutes starting. Surprised Wolves never sent him to Grasshoppers. Maybe prefer to have him play in a more physical environment.

Going down the Devoy/Burns route of chasing easy minutes instead of challenging himself it seems...another waster to write off.

If Huddersfield Town had been interested in Burns or Devoy this summer it would have been a sign that their careers are in a much better position than they appear to be just now.

Hodge needs to find his level over the next couple of years. It's probably Championship or League 1, but hopefully this coming season will be a better one for him than last season.

There is a difference between playing for a PL club and dropping to L1 (and a L! team that will be challenging for promotion and leaving the LOI and having to make the step up to L1. Hodge has talent - what he has consistently lacked is game time. This is a good move for him.

22 in September, and has made something like seven senior professional starts.

Any opportunity that affords a technically capable, talented player game time at a reasonable level, can only be a good thing.

It's still not good, but he has 23 appearances total, I think 2 of them and a couple of goals would have been playing for the u21's in the EFL thou tbf.

I don't know, do people forget the horror injury he had, didn't he basically miss a full season when he went on loan to Derry age 18. Got injured in pre season and went back to Wolves. Maybe they were unsure of sending him back on loan anywhere again for a couple seasons until they were sure he had rehabbed and everything was fine.

He probably needed to go out on loan at the beginning of last season but they chose to have him around as a squad option, after making some appearances the year before, I'd probably blame Wolves' handling of him more than I would the player himself for his lack of senior game time.

Conor Coventry is another midfielders I think badly needed to get out of West Ham earlier than he did but they kept having him hang around for token minutes every 6 months.

Turns 22 next month and has played very little senior football, you'd start to worry about him. The QPR loan didn't go well in the end, it seems like Hibs have possibly passed on him (and their midfield is a mess).

Really needs to go out and get a full season of first team football under his belt now. Probably looking at League 1 or Scotland, even League 2 if it comes to it, hopefully someone takes a chance on him and we see a bit more of him for our Under 21s as well before he goes overage at the end of the current campaign.

Hodge played well subbed off on 70 mins got good praise on commentary a couple of lovely through balls. One awful piece of control leading to a woeful challenge that got him.bioked. Huddersfield totally dominant so o connell has been anonymous
