View Full Version : Need winger & forward badly!

Failure to score from play in 180 minutes against Galway has to be a concern.

I see Behan out for another 4-5 weeks which IMO is a huge lose (never thought i'd say that). I think City badly need a forward to hold the ball up which is what Doyler used to do very well. Could see this was sadly lacking in Galway on friday. Fenn isn't stronger enough even if his skill can help him sometimes. O'Flynns forte is not with his back to goals.

Looking on the bench for last nights game can see virtaully no attacking options. I think we need Kearney back badly now & Billy is useless wide midfielder whatever about his use as fullback.

ya the bench looked very weak last night compare to a couple of weeks ago when our subs bench included, Fenn, O'Flynn, Gamble, O'Halloran, last night it included, Kevin Murray, Ray Lally, O'Halloran, Coughlan not an awfull lot of first team experience this season if any of them had to come on would they have been match fit. I am not questioning the quality of theese players but if we went a goal behind or got injuries in key positions the bench did not have any asses sitting on it that would have benefited us

I think the league cup and the start of the U21 league will help us there, as it will allow players get back fot match fitness and maybe increase competition for places

Still we only have at best 3 forwards & 3 wingers which is clearly not enough.

well looks like Richardson is strongly thinking about getting a striker, but is there any better out there??

As I said elsewhere I heard Glen Fitzpatrick but doubt it myself.

Not winding you up but it would be worth seeing if Zayed would fancy a move south. Has a good goalscoring record over the last few years.

How long is he under contract for?

Maybe Willie Bruton. Is he still playing for Waterford?

Glen Crowe would be ideal.
He's great for getting a goal when there isn't much on.
He's perfectly suited to the type of game we like to play.
Not bad with his head either.

It has always been Eamo dream to play professional footie (the same with all footie players) so im sure if the deal was right for all parties he would consider it, altough he is still in college in Dublin and turned down a move to the states because of that.

He would be an excellent signing for an eL side, and will finish this season in double figures again no problems, that'll be 3 seasons in a row. It all really depends on how we do this season i think. If we go down he will leave, no doubt about that but if we stay up, which i think we will he could well stay on with us, well thats what i would be hoping for anyway ! we would miss him so much !

I would think Zayed should be a target for us. Fine skillful player, would fit in well at City and how we play, would the chance of a league medal, full-time training/playing and a decent wage tempt him?
How much of a difficulty would Devlin be if City were to try to get him?

(BTW, I must add that there is no hint whatsoever that City are interested)

I agree, we should be going after the likes of Crowe imo.

How much would it cost to prise him away from Shels though? Would the money we got for Doyler and Long cover it?

The likes of Crowe and J Byrne are on big money at Shels, plus there'd be a sizeable transfer fee to think about. There's also the issue of bringing a highly-paid Dublin player into the dressing room- I think it would cause friction TBH and I just don't think it would be worth it. We'd be much better off looking at the likes of Zayed or McHugh or young irish players cross-channel.

Now there a combo i'd love to see play together......Zayed and McHugh

Cork have had pretty good luck over the past while about bringing quality players back home from England, maybe another one on the way fo ya

Nothing to do with luck at all :) They know they'll get to play in a good team in front of big crowds and play good quality football (usually).

Well we should have a sizeable transfer kitty now with the money we got for Doyler and Long. If the club are willing to use this money properly then there's no reason why we can't afford the likes of Crowe. (Byrne is sh!t, we don't want or need him).

I see what you're saying there alright but tbh if any of the players have an attitude like that then they're probably not professional enough to play for us anyway.

You can forget about Crowe, even if you had the money to sign him, had the money to pay him his weekly wage and he wanted to go to you, Shels would never sell to a championship rival.

Willie Bruton never really got a chance under Dolan  He did well for Reynolds but was very entusiastic for City when I talked to him before his move.Above all he was handy in the air and we need target cover if JOF is poorly.
I agree with Eanna about bringing in "big name" dublin players - theres plenty of decent talent out there Zayed is worth a look of course but even a shorter "rest of the year" contract with a player like Vinnie Arkins might add to Ricos options on the bench.

Ahh ... yeah there is ..... he seems like a guy that is in the pub when you arrive and leave .... he doesn't look like he is getting paid to play football, I have seen MSL players that look more agile and committed than him. I think Shels got conned big time there in fairness … there is no way I’d like to see him at City …. In fact if he were to come to City in the state he is in now, I’d stand outside the cross and spit at Lennox (well I wouldn’t but you know what I mean)

A cross-channel signing seems to be more city's style these days. Are there any free-scoring, skillful Corkonians over there not getting a break at their club? wishful thinking, I know...

Paddy McCourt from Rovers would be a nice signing.

We need someone who can hit the ground running as it were.
No point bringing in a player who takes a season to settle in and then gets snatched up by and English club as soon as he starts to show promise again.

McCourt would be a great signing IMO and given Rivers position they could hardly refuse 50k. From what I've seen so far, he looks sharp and skilful - he definitely has the potential and UEFA cup/ professional set up would be a great op for him

Well he's (AFAIK) contract runs out soon enough so any team interested could probably get him on the cheap ?

McCourts going across the water as soon as the window opens, and on a free transfer too. That was the plan all along. Same as with a few other Rovers players Roddy signed on short term deals. Brilliant planning and vision from The Rod as per usual
