I'm in Glasgow, it is just because i have a real crap TV, it can't tune into it, i think the tv is too old, one of my flatmate's is leaving soon, and she's has the flat's spare tv and it is great, it's coming to me next! So annoying i am missing these games, just puts you in the mood for the world cup. i am glad argentina are on form, i would rather see them hammer brazil, sick of brazil winning :rolleyes: i think japan will do well next year.

Can someone explain the relevance of Trevor Steven to an Irish football audience? Dolan, at least, is offering some insight. Nice to hear the views of a contributor who actually knows the game and whose footballing horizons don't end at Dover.

I'd never even heard of Trevor Stephen til he popped up on RTE. Riquelme's free was something else, Cambiasso's was good too. I can't stand Germany. I hope Argentina, Mexico or Brazil (if they qualify for the semis) win it.

Isn't it better sometimes to have a neutral non-Irish view on things ? And why do you need an Irish slant on a game between Brazil and Japan etc ? He's usually only used when the Muppet and Giles are on holidays and would know a lot more than the Muppet about foreign players.

Dolan, alone among the RTÉ anaylsts, displays some modicum of acquaintance with the world game. Incidentally, Dolan dropped into Richmond Park during the DC vs. Limerick game, fresh from the studio (still wearing his make-up in fact. I hope....) He thought it an hilarious jape to respond "Germany won 4-0" my query concerning the final score of Germany-Brazil.

Collicini the Argie centre half made one of the most sickening challenges i've seen in a long time. nearly took the mexican guys head off and he stayed on the pitch. Got booed for the rest of the game.
Damn RTE for delayed coverage, I was doing fine til I flicked on Aertel for the League Cup result.

Collicini was off balance from the slide tackle just before he collided with the Mexican, I think this is why he stayed on, it was accidental more than deliberate .It looked at lot worse than it was, especially with the head wound.

But has your Uncle Johnny won numerous league medals both sides of the border in GB, played for his country 36 times, including in the World Cup, and also play in France ? I think Trevor is well qualified to comment and more so than Dolan I suspect, although I do enjoy his punditry.

Watched the matches tonight. Ronaldinho and Sorin should've been off. Hanke deserved his.

But onto the football.......Adriano is world class. By far the best player in this tournament. His first tonight was brilliant.

Ronaldinho and Kaka were both good too. As was Robinho. As for Argentina, I can't stand that fcuker Collocini. He's a real dirty player. Good goal by all involved though.

Overall I'd say Mexico were the best team but that's the way it goes....

If Chelsea want to be as good as they think they are they should get Abramovich to part with as much as it takes to sign Adriano, he is everything they thought they were getting with Drogba, strong, powerful, able to run with the ball, an awesome shot (last night's first goal), an excellent header of the ball...Brazil deserved to win last night, they are a scary prospect, though I am sure at this stage all other times will be looking at how they might stifle them in the world cup

Delighted to see good win over evil last night, and there was me wondering where the term Dirty Argies came from ? They really can't take a beating.
For all Brazils prowess up front they still look dodgy at the back. That Roque Junior wouldn't inspire confidence in anyone. Lucio needs a new partner.
Collicini was filthy again last night and should have walked.
Big Adrian was superb and Kaka's goal was peachy. as always the Brazilians are a joy to watch.

I was at the game Wednesday night. Argentina were nothing short of bloody awful. They were in complete disarray. The first 2 goals for Brasil were class and I got a good view being sat in the 7th row behind the goal. Adriano does nothing for ages and then all of a sudden comes to life, like in the Greece game too. Kaka's goal was also class. Argentina offered nothing until Pekerman made substitutions - good goal by Aimar.
As for the stadium itself, apart from the leak in the folding roof that was shown on TV (i believe), the permanent roof also leaks and many fans, including me, got wet too. So much for german engineering.
As for Robinho, i can't comprehend the hype, nor the fact he played the entire game. Too much, too young, too soon.

I only saw bits & pieces of the tournament but I thought Riquelme was outstanding. He looks a better player than Deco to me. Did Barca sell the wrong guy?

For all their attacking brilliance I still think a direct European team could cause Brazil trouble, especially if they persist with Roque Jr.

I watched all the Brasil games and was less than impressed with their defence. They also seem to think that they can dance through opposition defences. However, the opposition IMO seemed to not offer the best opposing defences, so didn't exactly test them at times, even though Japan gave them a bit of a scare.
Robihno may be good, but seeing as so many 'experts' are calling him the 'new' pele :rolleyes: , especially as he plays at Santos, I think is pushing the boat out a bit. He struggled at times and should have been substituted in many games. Or was it just to advertise him and raise the bidding price with viewing European clubs?
