Making the bench at BMG, 3 caps for Ireland U19s (clearly identifies as both German and Irish). Could be one to watch.

I absolutely love the part in that article where it sets out that the wheels were put in motion by his granddad talking about him in a pub. Cracker.

Sounds 100% committed to us right through the article and then blows it at the end with a reference to potentially playing for the Germans. You end up wanting these dual national players to be good, but not too good, just in case.

Noss has had a good start to the season with Borussia, even if it's only pre-season. Hopefully it stands to him, as I don't think his couple of outings for the 21s were particularly amazing, despite plenty of justification for the call-ups/
Naturally it'll take a while for him to fully integrate into the set-up.

It's hard to know what to feel about Noss. He's shown glimpses of a very tidy player for the 21s/19s but hasn't ever done much of note and is in and out of the team.

There must be something there though if he's on the fringes of a good Monchengladbach team

I've liked him he wants to commit players and try to pass into tight areas . That's ends up losing the ball a bit as acresult

Trying to think who the last Irish person to play in the Bundesliga was?

Patrick Kohlmann played - or was in the 2. Bundesliga?

Struggling for another, though there's probably someone obvious I'm missing

Fortuna Cologne. I think they are now in the 3rd tier of German football. Played in a cup final against their more illustrious city rivals when they were in their pomp. Don’t really know how. Campbell ended up there.

Wow. You're memory is good.

Debatable… I hadn’t even heard of Clarke and would have put money on Kohlmann only playing at a lesser level!

Some trivia just sticks!

By the way this is the same Conor Noss who Crawford didnt think was good enough to be in the last U21 squad

To be fair, when the last U21 squad was announced in March, Noss hadn't played a minute of senior football since his debut in November, and didn't play again until after the game against Sweden

This is the midfielders and forwards named in that U21 squad against Sweden: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/u21-crawford-names-squad-for-sweden-qualifier

Midfielders: Conor Coventry (MK Dons, on loan from West Ham United), Dawson Devoy (Bohemians), Gavin Kilkenny (Bournemouth), Will Smallbone (Southampton), Ross Tierney (Motherwell)

Forwards: Festy Ebosele (Derby County), Evan Ferguson (Brighton & Hove Albion), JJ Kayode (Rotherham United), Mipo Odubeko (Doncaster Rovers, on loan from West Ham United), Ollie O’Neill (Fulham), Colm Whelan (UCD), Tyreik Wright (Colchester United, on loan from Aston Villa)

Of those, only O'Neil had played less minutes then Noss at the time of the squad announcement. He's actually not made his senior debut yet, but he had scored the winner against Sweden in November, which probably kept his position in the squad. Noss came on at the same time as O'Neil in that game, and had a fierce shot saved by the goalkeeper. Five minutes later, O'Neil scored
You could make a case for including Noss ahead of Kilkenny, Smallbone, or Ferguson, but we did win that game, so Crawford probably knew what he was doing

1st team football can be misleading though. Would I rather have a guy playing 1st team football for UCD or Colchester or someone on the fringes of a Bundesliga team?

Its the Managers job to look at whos actually a better player regardless. Personally I just dont trust Crawford to make the right decisions

In related news, despite winning 5-1 on the last day of the season, Monchengladbach have parted ways with their manager
https://www.borussia.de/en/news/news/2022-05-15-huetter-an-emotional-moment

…working with the young players at Borussia: In general, there’s a strong foundation there. I’m happy that I wasn’t afraid of giving young players a chance. If you look closely, you’ll see that our rebuild began last summer already. I’m proud of the fact that we were able to bring some 18 year olds into our team, during what was a tough period. Borussia Mönchengladbach have a hidden gem in Manu Koné, and he will only get better. We also brought Jordan Beyer into the team and gave Conor Noß some playing time.

Has missed Monchengladbach's three games so far this season with a suspected broken rib
https://www.gladbachlive.de/news/gladbach-topspiel-alarm-gleich-zwei-bayern-besieger-nicht-fit-106665

Neben den beiden Verteidigern fehlte auch Conor Noß (21), der nach einem Schlag auf die Rippe mit Verdacht auf Rippenbruch nur individuell trainieren konnte.
(translate)

Compared to training on Tuesday, Ramy Bensebaini and Conor Noß were absent, so coach Daniel Farke had 20 field players to fall back on. While Noss, who had been hit in the rib and was therefore not allowed to have physical contact, was doing individual training with the ball, Bensebaini didn't even appear on the pitch.
