He comes from a footballing family and his dad wouldn't be long bringing him back down to earth if he gets too big for his boots. Brighton fans have nothing to fear about him becoming another Connolly.
so the problem with Aaron C is that he is a bourgeois? and his familiy is a bit middle class bureaucrat?? is that so? i saw the chants of the Brighton that Aaron C is in the booty business, the problem is that the gorgeous ladies manage him!!!

on Ferguson I think he has pace as when he scored vs Arsenal, when fresh his stamina is the key, but he is just 18, he has everything to be the next Frank Stapleton, not tootall not to small, good both feet, a bit of class ,. very mobile thats why I would keep this fellow out of the gym, he doesnt need to bulk up

Connollys family are really good people from everything Ive heard in Galway.
Burnley, Swansea City, West Brom, Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich and Derby County are the teams mentioned.

I was only thinking this morning that Rodgers' odds of being our next manager must be shortening.
And to add to a post I made yesterday about Idah, Ferguson seems to have that nice knack of being found by an easy enough ball. Idah never seems to.
I wonder if Graham Potter is regretting his move now? BHA's new manager has barely broken stride and they're doing really well.
While it's definitely true that Ferguson has really laid down an exciting marker right at the start of his EPL career, I think we should still be patient with Idah. In his senior club career, the amount of minutes played has only amounted to about 20 games and he has scored 9 times. I still think that if he can stay injury free with a manager who doesn't believe in just playing one up top, like Farke, then he will develop into a better striker - how good, I'm not sure but there's still plenty of time
But, yes, Ferguson... wow

Could Ferguson obefemi and parrot play together in a front 3?
Evan I guess is strictly a 9

Not unless we want to get overrun in midfield again - we just don't have the midfielders to allow us to play three forwards. I think, if you go with Ferguson and Obafemi, you have to bench Parrott.

So Cullen and molumby with 2 wing backs ie Doherty and Coleman. Wouldnt work. Your probably right. Drop parrot and throw in Willie smallbone

Its a bit different I think, the hype thats building around Ferguson is down to what hes actually done on the pitch while Parrott almost became this mythical savior that no one had seen play senior football.
The hype around Ferguson right now is justified because he was genuinely very good the way he led the line for Brighton the other night. He looked dangerous when he got the ball and his movement over all play helped in getting others into good positions too.
I cant see any reason why there should be talk of a loan move for him at this stage. Brighton fans from what I can see online have been crying out for a striker and they are delighted in him from last 2 games. He will get plenty of game time if he stays fit between now and end of season at Brighton.

Wouldn't say strictly a 9 as Brighton have played him out wide for the U23s and in the EFL cup game this season against Forest Green he played as one of the two supporting the striker in a 3-4-2-1. Scored and assisted in that game but couldn't see him playing anywhere but 9 at the higher level for them until he gets more experienced.

Ian Wright was well impressed with him and full of praise. Even said people might call his goal a tap in but that Ferguson made it a tap in with his movement to free up space. And again for the goal he assisted where after he made the pass made a run which had the defenders in two minds on whether to close down Solly March which gave him the extra couple of seconds to get into a better position to score.

Exactly, it was only a simple tap in because of the little stutter he did to make space.
Theres not too many 18 year olds scoring goals in the Premiership so when one comes along that is ours its very exciting. Im really looking forward to seeing how he goes for the next few weeks

Exactly JR89. And if it was that easy Idah might have had a few goals for Ireland and several more for Norwich by now.
Was it Connolly who had a chance from a narrow angle in Bratislava that he tried to curl inside the far post? Everyone was screaming that he should have cut it back or squared it but all the replays showed Idah had snookered himself. On Tuesday Ferguson skipped his marker, found space, adjusted his run and hey presto, tap in!
And - I think - the reverse happened at home to Armenia early on. Idah had a great run but couldn’t find a ball for Connolly to run on to.

Don't think they have too many alternatives - Welbeck isn't fit to start and there seems to be some unexplained issue with Trossard.

De Zerbi on the absence of Trossard. 'I want more from him - he can work harder, he can run more on the pitch, and I want players who give 100% in every training session and every game. Without these characteristics, then they can’t play with me.'

Did ok, his pass to March in clip above his highlight. Gave ball away cheaply a couple of times, and lacked a bit of pace when slid through on goal. Welbeck on for him now. Hopefully he will start in league to continue his development

Super assist against Liverpool. Causing them problems all game. He’s had a couple of half decent chances too. His pressure resulted in the first goal too. Really starting to look the part, he’s had some lovely soft touches and shown quick feet, better than I thought he had in the locker too.

Should also point out that Liverpool have been absolutely terrible. But still impressive to see how he’s handling himself physically. He’s not a particularly big lad when you see him up against the other defenders and midfielders for corners etc, but he’s very strong and uses his body well.

Well deserved. His last action was to draw Trent Alexander Arnold into a stupid tackle which he rightly saw yellow for.
Ferguson has come on massively from the player I’ve seen with the Ireland under 21s. His touch was the most impressive for me, always thought it looked a bit heavy in the past but it was excellent today.

Did pretty well. Nice assist, although March had it all to do, it was Solly’s goal. Some really nice link up play and show of strength. Also, lost ball aimlessly a couple of times with indecision. He should continue to see plenty of game time to the seasons end if he stays fit. By the end of the season, he could be a considerable asset to Ireland

If he can manage four or five goals for the season now it would be a great return. Welbeck back from injury and scoring probably isn't a great sign but hopefully the manager sticks with Evan

I typically shake a fist at the cloud that is modern football parlance, but I wouldn't focus on just goals. He's got four goal involvements (grrr...) so far - two assists too. OK, I think the two assists were far more about the finish than the pass, but still, he's putting himself about quite nicely.
An assist for March suggests he has to start in March? That's how football works, yeah?

Would certainly start him against Latvia anyway. Him and Obafemi could be a good combination by March depending on how things go for Obafemi between now and then.
Would play him against France as well, either from the start or as a used sub (has the added benefit of competitively capping him as well, just to formally close off the dual eligibility situation).

He's allowed 3 competitive caps and still switch
It's a ridiculous rule I know
No danger here though

Yes, but a single competitive cap for an under 21 player ties him for three years so that would also put an end to any further newspaper articles on the subject. If he played in both games in March he'd have four caps and that would resolve it also (they don't need to be four competitive caps, including friendlies are fine in that case).
Might as well start him for Ireland. There's nothing to lose and everything to gain. He's impressed since coming into the Brighton team. Commentator for BBC was praising him yesterday and Ian Wright was full of praise for him against Everton.
There's no other striker we've got that's impressing or even getting minutes at PL level and honestly Obafemi is probably the only one besides Ferguson that will likely have a PL career if he gets the move to Burnley.
We ain't qualifying so give a pairing like Obafemi and Ferguson the chance to develop.

If he does get 4 or 5 goals before the end of the season he will have a lot of big clubs very interested in him, and I think it's a real possibility

His mother is English so automatically that means the big bad Gareth Southgate is gonna steal him from us.

Once bitten, twice shy I guess.
But yeah, it does seem he's far less of a flight risk than, say, Rice, whose link was through his grandparents.
He deserves a cap in March anyway, which will hopefully close it all off.

Just to clarify, it's not about capping him to stop England taking him, nobody is saying that's anyways likely. It's about getting him competitively capped just to put an end to nonsense articles like Paul Rowan's one in the Sunday Times last week.
Papers don't refuse ink and clickbait websites don't refuse clicks, so as long as he's dual eligible that kind of thing will continue and it's unhelpful, so the sooner he's competitively capped to put an end to it the better.

Can we please stop this crap about worrying a player will declare for another country…it was interesting at first but it’s now just getting boring and tedious to the point you can see the comment coming from a mile away.

It's becoming paranoia at this stage especially in regards to someone like Ferguson. England I'm sure would give their left nut to have a young CF like Ferguson in their pool of players but more chance of us finishing in the top two for the next qualifiers than Ferguson ever entertaining the thoughts of not playing for Ireland.
I'd be starting him in March. Impressing at a level that none of our other CFs are impressing at.

Eligibility is neither here nor there. The reason he should play in March is that he's a striker playing and scoring in one of the big European leagues.

In fairness, he's scored 2 league goals for Brighton. Connolly did that in one game against Spurs. Callum Robinson the same against Chelsea.
I wonder at what point he'll be the highest scoring premier league player of our squad:
Coleman 21
Hendrick 12
Doherty 11
McClean 11
Brady 10
Duffy 7
Robinson 6
Connolly 5
Obafemi 4
Hourihane 4
If Shane Long was considered to be still a squad member, I think he'd be on 56. Doherty could maybe reach 20. Beyond that, it's Ferguson, or at a stretch, Obafemi signs for Burnley, hits the ground running, does really well, they get promoted and he goes into next season as a goal scoring premier league striker...

I thought Connolly had a great chance to kick on and be a top Premiership player after those 2 goals against Spurs. It wasnt just the goals, he was playing very well at the time too and it should always serve a lesson for young players to not think they have "made it" after a couple of games.
Ferguson feels different to me than most of our hyped up young players of recent years. This feels like natural progression for a guy who has been destined to be a top class player since he was a kid of 14 coming on against Chelsea. Hes a bit like Bazunu, who also played LOI very young, in that once he got a taste of 1st team football you expect him to continue to improve. Id put Nathan Collins in that bracket too.
His performance against Liverpool at the weekend wont get the coverage of the previous games because he didnt score, but I thought he was brilliant. He was involved all the time. I think Stutts said in a previous post that the ball seems to be drawn to him in the box unlike other strikers in our squad, and it happens because of his cleverness of movement. He made some excellent runs the other night that made space for the likes of Mitoma to attack. His touch and hold up play were evident too. He just seemed to at the heart of everything good for Brighton and by the time he came off after an hour you could see that he was knackered.
To answer the question above, he could been our top Prem scorer by the time hes 20 if he continues his current progress.
