Now, that he’s had a while to settle in, I wonder how you view the appointment of Nick Gleeson. The initial publicity and curiosity surrounding him seems to have abated somewhat. As an outsider, It seems to me that he has achieved some interest in the club. Whither or not that has resulted in much needed revenue coming in, I don’t know. Nor do I expect to be told. But, I would assume Galway’s position in the league would make his job very difficult.
It seems to me, he knows very little about the league. His articles in The Mirror on Friday disappoint me, because they show very little knowledge or enthusiasm about the domestic game. Would you say, that he is using his position with Galway United to further his own personnel career, or is he for the betterment of Galway United Football Club?
It certainly was a brave move on behalf of the board to appoint him, and I think it’s a position Sligo Rovers must seriously consider.
I would like to hear your comments, remarks etc.

It's Leeson.I think it was a good move on behalf of the club.He attracted an enormous amount of publicity and is still doing so.Galway recently featured on football mundial and although it revolved around nick it was good publicity. We have been headlined across the world ie...sky news new york times etc.He may not be a devoted GUFC fan but that is of little relevance as long as he attracts new sponsorships and deals which will enhance our reputation.Hopefully this is along term position for nick and he isn't in it to build his own personal career which would mean leaving GUFC as his expierience and qualifications would be second to none.

Leeson's appointment was clearly just a publicity stunt which at best will attract a few fairweather fans for a short while. I can't imagine sponsors are going to come flocking in just because of him.
His appointment will not, directly or indirectly, have any affect where it matters. On the pitch!
Is Lally's job in danger is what I'm wondering?

True he can't influence on the field matters but his name alone will attract sponsorships and of course it was a publicity stunt but isn't that not what a commercial manager is supposed to do?,attract publicity
As for lally,if he hasn't had his contract terminated after getting 10 pts out of 36  then when will they realise enough is enough!

Like I said, I can't really imagine the sponsors coming flocking just because the Rogue Trader is commercial manager. Also, his role isn't simply to attract sponsorship.

I have heard that he has raised E450,000 euro already? Not doing to bad in my books??

Is that reliable? I thought most sponsorship deals were already done by the time he was taken on.

.. but that figure is totally inaccurate. More like a projected figure that he may bring in at some stage in the future.

Leeson banks on return from United investment
ALMOST 7.30pm on a Thursday and Nick Leeson is trying to get the baby to sleep.
It’s been another manic day in the offices of Galway United, what with Terryland hosting an open-air concert this summer and a celebrity five-a-side tournament that will include soap opera actors.....
