So Can Shels do the decent thing and take some points off Bohs in the Dublin Derby and set up a potential league winning match next week against HArps for Rovers (if we beat Sligo tonight). Its win win for me as there is no one id like to see going down more than Shels

Derry need a win badly, Devine talks like a man under pressure , slating his players after the Sligo match.

If the DFC team that played against Rovers turns up against Harps then Harps could get a result there which would go down really well with DFC's old pals in Cork :)

The Galway revival was built on a soft run of fixtures , the loss last weekend wasn't terminal by any means but Drogs will be a big test and we will see if Galway are really becoming a force or not

I hope we can get the 3 points in Tolka to keep space between us and 4th. A Derry win against Waterford would also be nice.

Derry have been threatening to do something in this league for the last number of years, but have never fulfilled it. Why is that, you wonder?
Their set up, similar to Cork, in being a one club city and football loving/playing population nearby should really be a benefit to them, but they seem to promise lots and ultimately do nothing..
Shels bohs should be a tasty affair. A 1 nil win and both sides reduced to 10 men I think.
Cork are dead anyway imo, but not getting 3 points against pats would confirm it, for me
I expect the Rovers train to keep in rolling against sligo, although no Pico again tonight.
Dundalk should be too good for Harps no matter what side they put out.

Harps game will be off, Jack in the senior squad plus Farrugia and Scales in the U21s.

We might be, but we shouldn't be. The squad is not the worst in the league. There's huge question marks around the manager IMO. Some of the in-game calls have been strange of late. And the defence should be #1 on the priority, but we look disinterested in focusing on it. It's madness.

I think we're gone if we continue on this path, but having said that, a win could change everything.

Looking at stats (quiet day)
2016 SB games only 1.52 pts per game .........4th place
2017 ......................1.69 ............................3rd
2018 ......................1.72 ............................3rd
2019 .......................2.08 ...........................2nd (Won FAI Cup)
2020 to date ............2.69 .............................?

When you consider the calls to sack Bradser in 2018 which would probably have led to a dismantling of the team and a restart as a new manager tried to make the "needed" changes it might make the people calling for O Donnells head at Pats rethink.....or people in general

If we beat Sligo and Shels beat Bohs we will send up the U13's if you promise to be nice go easy on them :)

Like many other teams, players are picked off by other clubs and the replacements haven’t worked out.

Biggest problem this season is the lack of goals, Junior we all know about but Parkhouse is now in the conference in England, wtf.

Edit: To be fair, she's got the Derry forward's name correct by now.

Another win for Rovers. We keep scoring and are keeping clean sheets.
We have good quality on the bench, and the relativey youthful age of the squad is hopefully a good sign for the future.
Onwards and upwards.

In general apart from Dundalk and yourselves none of the rest of the teams cant score goals. Bohs and Waterford the only others averaging over a goal a game and they’re both only 2 goals over the games they’ve played.

Like many other teams, players are picked off by other clubs and the replacements haven’t worked out.

Biggest problem this season is the lack of goals, Junior we all know about but Parkhouse is now in the conference in England, wtf.

The biggest problem is the structure at the club and the management team.

What we have is McCourt handling recruitment (which has been exceptionally poor this year), Deery who is highly unpopular amongst even his own players and Devine who got through his first season with to his credit a few good additions a blood and thunder approach on the touch line.

The entire thing is very disjointed and with Devine at the head we are seeing almost a carbon copy of his first spell in charge where his team has regressed. This time quicker and even further than his first stint.

There is no hope of significant improvement at Derry for next year with things as they are and given someone at the club handed Devine a 12 month extension the week before the Riterai game (why would you not wait a week to see if he threw quarter of a mil down the sh!tter?) there seems no likelihood of him being replaced before the beginning of next season either.

Therefore we will remain in a dour football filled pergatory for some time before the axe does fall.

No, they're playing Bray in the First Division.

Good win for Rovers tonight in what could have been a tricky game. 4-0 wasn't a fair reflection on Sligo, who were good even though they're missing a few players.

First penalty to Derry was very soft last night. Our ex player Figueira went down handy after a bit of contact. 2nd one is fair enough as was a late tackle even though contact on Figueira was when shot was way off target.
We didn't attack enough and Derry were better team in 2nd half.

That's generous CD. It could've been more than 4-0...... Sligo had a few moves when Rovers were pushing the boat out too far or trying training ground stuff in their own half but I'm not sure Mannus had a save to make over 92 mins? I'll have to watch it again to be sure but it was comfortable viewing throughout when I watched it live.

I didn't realise that Burke was out next week as well due to suspension, so that would be Byrne, Burke, Lopes , scales and farrugia all out, half of tonight's starting outfield 10.

Scrufil

Did Byrne seriously get a yellow for stepping off the pitch without the ref's approval? First time I've ever heard of that rule. Anyone see it happen before in LoI?

pineapple stu
03/10/2020, 8:39 AM
I think it is a rule alright. You could be looking to impinge on the offside rule (although I think you can still be considered part of play even when off the pitch, as Italy found out in a finals match a few years back) or gain some other advantage like Dion Dublin's goal off Shay Given in the 90s -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UeNGCNE2E4

That was ok because Dublin initially left the pitch under his own momentum, but you can see the ref at the end checking with his linesman to be sure he can give the goal.

Jamie Doyle got booked for us against Dudelange for coming back onto the pitch without permission (he had gone down with cramp and landed outside the touchline, but then scooted himself back on for treatment, and to waste time). Not quite the same thing, but similar.

Pinapple Stu, sneeky goal by Dublin alright. I was aware if a player left the pitch they cannot come back on without the ref's approval, but I did not know stepping off was an offense as it happens all the time. If a player falls down in a heap and goes over the boundaries and is hurt, just like Byrne was hurt, once they are not interferring with play why is it a yellow? Makes no sense to me.
