    FAI Junior Cup 2004/05 Final

    Statoil F.A.I. Junior Cup 2004-2005

The final of the Statoil FAI Junior Cup will take place between Waterford Crystal and Carew Park on May 8 at Turner's Cross
This is on the FAI Website this morning.

The real Final in the meantime is been played in Kilkenny which is 3 & 3/4 hrs away from Westport, and not exactly a main route, and only 40 minutes from Waterford!

Westport fans, who the majority of, are travelling on the Saturday, are going to have to stay in Waterford because of the lack of accommodation in Kilkenny that weekend!

I don't want to come across as a moaner, I totally understand Waterford Crystal been given more consideration, due to the delay with the final, but what is wrong with the original venue, which is still closer to Waterford, but would be better for travel and accomm! Pitch not great at the moment though.

Tolka Park or Dalymount would have been an ideal venue.

Nothing from stopping them from staying in bed and breakfast accomodation in County Kilkenny, hotels in Carlow, Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Mountmellick, Thurles, Tullamore, Cashel, Urlingford. Waterford is not the only place in the region with hotels. Broaden your horizons!!

Supporters will travel to the game and supporters will surely find other towns and villages for accomodation. Apparently, Westport wanted the game changed from Turner's Cross but the FAI have a penchant for baffling people. Buckley Park, the apparent venue, regularly hosts Republic of Ireland Under 21 matches-surely the pitch cannot be that bad. I think you are entitled to your point

Get used to it. The FAI are primarily run by Waterford heads, Corcoran, Cruise etc and select these venues to suit.

Fairview Rangers had to travel to Waterford to play the final a couple of seasons ago against Carrick United (locals) at half seven on a Saturday night. This, as you would imagine, diminished their support, but thankfully didn't have the desired effect as Fairview came back from 2 down to win 3-2.

I think we've established the scoreline and the lads' home towns now. Move on.

In Form Forward Out Of Final!!

Reports coming out of Westport are that in form forward David Hoban is definitely out of the final of the FAI Junior Cup. Hoban sustained an injury at training on Friday evening. It will be a massive blow to Westport fans. I happened to be socialising in the town last night and was talking to a few locals who are travelling to the final. They also write off Westport chances of winning.
