Its not always down to the organisation to ensure tax on benefits is paid?
It usually is. Here's Revenue's PAYE guide (https://www.revenue.ie/en/tax-professionals/tdm/income-tax-capital-gains-tax-corporation-tax/part-42/42-04-35a.pdf)

Section 9.1 says -

9.1 Employer’s duty to deduct tax and USC
It is the employers’ duty to calculate and deduct the tax and USC, if any, due from the pay, including notional pay, of every liable employee. It is important to remember that ‘employee’ includes both a director and an occupational pension recipient.

There is guidance on nett payments somewhere, but I can't find it. But the BIK on the rent in particular is I think why the FAI got stung with a huge tax bill (and had to declare huge extra JD remuneration)

Sometimes errors are so small as to be not worthy of note.
I think it's a major error to get something like that wrong. Just read the first chapter and have spotted a couple of factual errors re. The League of Ireland. Rather like most of the people it describes, the book is a bit shoddy.

Sure what would an artist like you be worrying about tax for Stu, surely that is a thing of the past for you :)

Anybody notice that the author of the 'report' that recommended splitting the CEO into two jobs, one for JD with all the gravy, and the other for anyone at all prepared to be led by the new Exec VP was ... recently touted possible new CEO Jonathan Hall?

Himself and Daryl Oates wanted it, but it was too hard to handle. It was said to make their dreams come true, but something wasn't quite right about them.

Poor stuff here tbh - I can't go for that.

I'm a bit out of touch with the pun game.

Delaney didn't take any legal proceedings against anything that the boys wanted to publish in the book. There were no more major stories left out. It's a great read and yet a depressing read as well.

You'd like to think Irish soccer fans are embarrassed at their fawning over JD down the years, but most of them probably will pretend it was only a minority who chanted his name in bars before/after games.

Bonner/Kerr seemed to have really been screwed by Delaney. Shocking treatment of two lads who gave so much to Irish football

Quite a good few on this site too:cool:

Going through this now, quite late to the party. It's a remarkable story. A big "I have to put this down for a second" moment for me was Delaney in the Legal Eagle after losing the injunction case to the Times, teleconferencing the FAI board who are lining up to lick his boots about the "bridging loan". He really did an amazing job of surrounding himself in the FAI with people who thought he was the Messiah.

Missed this part of the JD circus until today, any ruling on this since?

Possibly a media blackout on it for a while, given it's so quiet.

Very similar to that attempted injunction before. Hopefully the same result.
