Following the draw in Bulgaria and the loss in Aviva Stadium, I'm joined by Mark Kennedy of Hawkeye Sidekick and Philip Flanagan of The Bottomless Pit of Football to discuss the two results. What did Stephen Kenny get right and wrong, and what do the results mean for the crucial play off against Slovakia, and the two Nations League games in October: https://shows.acast.com/irish-football-fans/episodes/episode-17-the-first-game-is-the-hardest

Had a fairly unique, if ignominous, event today when both O'Connors at Bradford (Paudie and Anthony) were sent off in the same game: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54127739

Went to find out if something like this had happened before and learned that when Jimmy Dunne was playing at Accrington Stanley he got sent off in a game against Swindon for reacting to a raised arm from an opponent who got sent off for it - the opponent's name? James Dunne: https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog/the-toe-poke/65/post/3484905/two-opposing-players-with-same-name-both-sent-off-during-an-incident-in-league-two

Rochdale defence against Portsmouth on 19 Sept: Gavin Bazunu in goal, Ryan McLaughlin(N.Ireland) at right back, Eoghan O'Connell and Paul McShane as centre halves, and Jimmy Keohane at left back. Oh and Jimmy Ryan in midfield. The manager is a Brian Barry-Murphy :-)

Williams is having an interesting start to the season. I thought he was on the way out there last year and the manager had to talk down MLS links.

(From BBC Sport 7 Oct.) Rotherham manager Paul Warne confirmed Chiedozie Ogbene (23) had cartilage surgery on Monday, after sustaining an injury in training last week; he is unlikely to play again before January. He had started in Rotherham's first three Championship matches this season, having made 25 appearances during their League One promotion campaign in 2019/20.

Can I ask why you omitted starters? Your post is incomplete and absolutely tilted towards negativity. Why do that to yourself and others?

Oh, and March is 3 months away.

Christ.

In reply to Olé Olé

"Omitted starters": Tetsujin1979 does an excellent job of reporting weekly on starters, scorers, assists, cards, etc. I'll leave the starters to him.

"post is incomplete": Yes, I declared that it was probably incomplete.

"absolutely tilted towards negativity" Or perhaps realism, in terms of chances of success in 2021/2? At the moment we have 4 regular starters in the Premiership; 2 of them play with Sheffield Utd. Come March I'll be hoping and praying with every other fan of the BIG, but I do feel sorry for Stephen Kenny.

Merry Christmas to all. Stay safe.
