Hey all

Going down to Limerick for the match in a couple of weeks. Should be a good game with both clubs on the up once more. Great to hear the attendances are averaging a 1000. that's excellent. i was in pike rovers ground for last game of season and was a depressing day i can tell you. looking forward to seeing the hogan park ground.

Where is good to go out in Limerick. I've had brief excursions through Limerick and have been in Maguires and the claw i think it was. Anyhoo anyone know of anywhere else worth going to ? bars, clubs etc

Also where is good to stay ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Nancy Blakes, Clohesseys, Smiths are probably the most popular places in town.

The Sin Bin & The Icon are the most popular clubs.

The Sin Bin is underneath Clohesseys & the Icon is next to Smiths.

Theres a strip joint just off O'Connell st called The Globe or at least thats what it used to be called but be carefull cause I think theres a Gay club in the same building & you wouldn't want to go in the wrong door now would you. :D

Of course it all depends what you are into but there is no shortage of bars in town. We even have a Polish bar nowdays but don't ask me to tell you what its called.

It all depends what you are into of course what you're after but if its skirt the you should have no problems in either The Sin Bin or The Icon.

Enjoy your weekend & don't take it too badly when we beat ye ;)

thanks for the info. I wont be as depressed as when we lost to ye last season in the last game. man that day was crap.

Ye are in great form. i'd take a draw in limerick, so a win would be a great result .looking forward to seeing a crowd in an away game again.

thanks again.

funny and sad. As you come into limerick from the shannon/ennis dir, take the dir to dublin. At the parkway roundabout take the right turn and three roundabouts later (all straight) tesco is on your right (parking at the rear of tesco) ground is a 2 min walk from there.

Hello everyone!

First of all: Sorry for my bad English, but school is a long time ago :-)

On Friday I will fly from Germany (or better: Mönchengladbach - maybe you know Borussia?) to Limerick (or better: Shannon) to see the match in the evening. A bit crazy, of course, but who of us is not a bit crazy...

So, a lot of questions have already been answered above (where to spend the time after the match, for example :) ), but maybe you can help me with some more...?

So first an easy, but important one: How do I get from the City Center to Hogan Park without a car? By bus? Or is it possible to walk?

Second: Because I am especially interested in the ground, I am looking for a short history of LFCs "journey" through different grounds. So far I have found something about "Rathbane North" (same as Hogan Park, isn`t it?), "Jackman Park", "Pike Rovers", "Market`s Field" and so on, which confused me a lot :) Maybe I can find something like this somewhere in the web?

And finally, I am looking for a short history of Limerick FC. I learned that in the beginning there was Limerick AFC, then Limerick United, Limerick City and finally 1983 City. With championships 1960, 1980, right? So, maybe you can give me a link where I can find a short summary?

So, thats all :)

Good luck for the match on Friday, I hope to see a good one...

well our ground is an experience at the moment so be sure to say hello to us at our table inside the ground. buses run to limerick every hour or so from the airport and get a taxi from the city (after you have a place to stay) to the ground. Do not go into any local pubs around the ground. Ps you MUST bring some ladies with you just like all us limerick fans do :p places to stay....not sure but try hostels.com some are not there anymore but i think that courtbreak is. hotels:jurys inn, travelodge (a bit outside the city) sarsfield bridge hotel, greenhills, we'll tell u more but id say ull find something on the web.

Thanks to both of you!

Do I really have to take a taxi? Is it this far? So I guess there also is no bus for returning to the city center after the match, right? But ok, a taxi should be no problem...

My flight back is on saturday in the early morning (at 7), so I am thinking about not going to bed and save the money... I hope there are some places to spend the night-time in Limerick?

Hope to find "your table" to say hello,

Erik

P.S. Unfortunately I am travelling only with a good friend of mine. So bringing a lady is not easy for us, but I will take a look in the city before the match, maybe I will be succesfull ;)

i think there is a local bus running to "near" the ground in rathbane. you can get it from outside the limerick sports shop on william street, but a taxi will be well handier and wont cost u much. As for staying out all night well the pubs/clubs should keep you going till 2, food till 3, roam aimlessly till five and get a taxi (earliest bus is 6:30, 45 min journey) to the airport around 5:30. Read futher up the post for best pubs/clubs.

Two minute walk. You can see the shopping centre from the entrance to the ground.

To be fair theres no problem with parking outside the ground but as was just said the shopping center is no more than a 2 min walk from the ground.

i was at the game last year and thought the good weather brougth out the best football qualities in both teams must ask have you still got the english bloke playing centre back.gael353 you seem to have a downer on the local watering holes i am sure there not all that bad and the guvnors would relish the extra trade the know healthy crowds that we are getting would bring

I think your talking about Gerry Carr so, yes he's still with us but does'nt play much, he is a player/coach now. Our "west indian" players were from Barbados, they're all gone now except for one-Alvin Rouse(Goalkeeper)

For the first time in a long time I have a really, really positive feeling going into a home game. I think we're gonna win tonight. I'll say... 2-0...

Can't Pass to open the scoring with a tap in from 4 yards that he'll celebrate as though it was Maradona's second against England in '86. And Brian Donnellan to seal it with a late goal on the counter 5 minutes from time. :D
