Cork City striker Roy O’Donovan has been called into the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for Friday evening’s clash with Israel at Flancare Park.
The former Coventry City youngster was drafted in by boss Don Givens as a replacement for Cork clubmate Liam Kearney, who was forced to withdraw on Thursday morning.
O’Donovan, who has represented Ireland at under-19 level in the past, returned from England earlier this year after being released by the Sky Blues.
The 19-year-old has scored two eircom League Premier Division goals since breaking into the Cork side a month ago, including the crucial opener in the win over champions Shelbourne on Monday night, which sent the Leesiders to the top of the table.
