An English Premier Division side called Sunderland has been a destination for many Irish soccer players recently - at the last count there was 15 Irish players on their books - and now the Black Cats have decided to try their hand at Gaelic Football.

The English club will face the local university in a GAA match on Sunday and Niall Quinn, a former Dublin minor hurler, will line up at centre back with Jason McAteer as a corner forward.

Niall Quinn explains: "It's an idea a few of us had in 2000 as a way of integrating the Irish players at the club with the Irish student community."

The match has the full support of Sunderland though they must have some concerns about how Quinn's back will stand-up to the test.
