View Full Version : Suggestion re non-established players' threads in Ireland forum

I'm not as on top of emerging players as I used to be back when between the football news and Football Manager I recognised more or less every name in certainly the higher tiers of the English football league. I notice I often see threads with player names I barely or don't recognise. Often these are threads on promising young players or emerging lower league players, like Parrott or Masterson (to pick two near the top at the moment, though they're high profile enough that I know who they are). I personally would find it super helpful if the thread names had a smidge more info, e.g.
Troy Parrott ST Spurs b.2002
Conor Masterson CD Liverpool (loan QPR) b.1998
Obviously, too much info would be overkill, but position, club, and birth year (which doesn't need updating like age).
Would others find that useful? I'd be happy to primarily administer it myself if I had the authority and knew it'd be helpful.

Sounds like a good idea. Which forums is this? Ireland anyway, are there player threads elsewhere?

Sounds like a good idea. I have the same problem keeping tabs with all these whippersnappers!
Would G,D,M or F be enough general positional info without getting bogged down on whether a player is an FB or CD, or a winger or striker?
Or could the detail be added to the first post so the thread title stays short, but you'll always know where to find the data? It could allow for more info - Troy Parrott, b. Dublin, 2002. Club: Spurs (Loans - ). Position ST (9 or 10). Secondary position: AM-R or whatever.

I was thinking specifically of Ireland. Club-specific threads would have cues from the subforum, and would only draw interest from club fans for the most part.

Yeah, that might be simpler.

You'd have to specifically go to that post to find that info - just as easy to google the name at that point. This is why I'm thinking thread title.

That's a discussion for another thread. :) But seriously, I'm not there to undo Tets moderation. If his policy is to be changed, it has to be via the discussion in the support forum.

Could I be annoyingly petty?
It's a good change, but a dash or a bracket would make it clearer.
Troy Parrott - F, Spurs, b 2002
Troy Parrott (F, Spurs, b 2002)
Or something like that?

Didn't really have a strong opinion on this but now that it's in, I do like it. The brackets definitely help too. I'd go the whole hog though, and apply it to the more established players too, keep it consistent. I don't expect you to do them all at once, John. :D

I'm trying to do any thread that pops up with a new post. Little point in doing it for threads that might never get posted in again.

Do we really have to have the year of birth. Some of us were born in the early 80s and could do without it being pointed out how old we are!
