Got to be the most predictable result with the way the SPL has gone all season. Celtic tried but couldn't kill the game off so it had to happen: a late equaliser for Motherwell (and then the winner). You could see it coming - God is Beatie hopeless (falling over the ball) and Celtic just booting the ball away as the last few minutes approached. On the Rangers Boards a few weeks ago they were all calling for the head of McLeish - it's a funny old game (but not for a Celtic fan right now).
Now, what heart break will the Div 1 play-offs hold for me ?

The end of the road for Martin O'Neill, thank you very much for the memories Martin which will live with us forever but you are not the man to take us forward. Your style of football has held us back to to think that we were ACTUALLY sitting back onto a 1-0 lead for the last 20 mins against Motherwell says it all. Cheerio and good luck. :( :(

You're a very sad little child if your delighted Celtic IMO. Why don't you go to Ibrox and show then how happy you are, I'm sure they'd take you in with open arms
You're just one of the anti Celtic sheep out at city who only shout that rubbish to follow the crowd. Keep hoping that a staunchly anti Irish club like Rangers win things, only good things will come to you in the future

This is the very sort of rubbish that was on the Rangers' boards when Rangers were struggling about McLeish. Real knee jerk reaction (emphasis on jerk). If Celtic had hung on for their 3rd title in 4 years, O'Neill would be the man. He turned that Club round from years of Rangers domination and has done a great job. He has been financially tied by the club and has got the team to a UEFA Final etc. The team needs to be freshened up, with a couple of new players, especially in midfield and all will be well.

That's not fair on O'Neill at all. He brought Beattie on for Hartson which was an offensive substitution with Beattie having more forward drive in him than Hartson. A number of factors worked against Celtic. I don't think the pitch was conducive to any decent open football making the game very choppy and lowering the level of play which suited the poorer team. Motherwell's equaliser was a good finish but it was a lucky break that the downward stuck shot boucned to the striker. I thought Dallas had a poor game. However Celtic have themselves to blame. The common theme of the season reared its ugly head, poor defending. Poor defending prevented Celtic from having won the league already. Poor defending gave Celtic the poor goal difference that would have lost them the league before Well's winner anyway. And poor defending lost Celtic the match in the end. Also Motherwell's plugging away to the end, hard to know what to say about it. Professionalism or unnecessary? Butcher threw on a 3rd striker in a fairly meaningless game for his club. Though hardly ranks with the Hearts keeper Craig Gordon going up for corners to help equalise from the 88th minute on in a meaningless game for his club last week.

What are you talking about?? They are a football team who want to win. They are possibly playing for their future at the club. Butcher may have wanted to win to prove a point and he did that. To question his decisions is silly. Its not his problem celtic didnt want to win the league. Butcher had a job to do, and he did it, end of story.

I know what you are saying but I have seen some lethargic performances from teams in their position of meaningless games against a team winning a match in the dying stages with so much at stake. It is a bit of tough luck when this happens to you and the team takes it to you right to the death. Switching over to the other game Hibs performance at the end looked flat by comparison. I'm not saying they did something wrong. It is the fault of Celtic in the end for not tying the league up earlier and indeed the game. However Craig Gordon the previous week did seem a bit odd.

How'd he feel if I cheered on whoever played City in Europe just because City dominate out City and Ramblers? He obviously doesn't think.

Now they just did their duty. Why would Motherwell do Celtic any presents ? If they did they'd been ridiculising the whole SPL. Just like Hibernians had the moral duty to go for it vs Rangers, Motherwell had the duty to play it fair vs Celtic. They don't have any connection with neither Rangers nor Celtic, so why would they want to give presents to Celtic ?
I wonder what scenes passed in the Celtic fan pub here in Dublin city centre... Probably the party had already started, and then this happens... This must be the most painful thing for the real Celtic fans out there. The Dublin Loyal on the other hand will have a great weekend after having seen Linfield win as well yesterday

Forgive me for being a bit ignorant here, but your point is that every person in Ireland is more or less obliged to support Celtic ??

Hugh ' I lick rangers arse' Dallas in the first half- oh behave! He delighted in winding up Bellamy.
Needed that 2nd goal, but it did not come.
Celtic need a few new players, some time to settle in....shame they won't have Bellamy, the pace and the confidence of that guy, it is great to watch, rare sight in the SPL.

Hibs had more than a moral duty Aberdeen could have overtaken them if they heavily thumped Hearts and Hibs lost by a few. I wasn't suggesting giving presents I was just saying perhaps the urgency wasn't there to throw on a third striker but fair play to the lad who scored the double. He was a Celtic fan. I don't think anyone will ever question his professionalism in the future.

Nah jus if it's between Celtic and Rangers to win the league the songs, chants, actions and affiliations of Rangers generally causes Irish people to support Celtic for the league even if they don't go to games or anything :)

Gerrit that's a can of worms not to disimilar to the Linfield over Shels debate. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Probably not in the Shankhill, but given thats its a ROI site I would have thought (wrongly obviously) that the majority of footy fans In Ireland would be rooting for Celtic. I stand corrected yer man obviously wanted Rangers to win so good luck to him.

I am sick of having to babysit threads when either of these two poxy glaswegian clubs is involved. If people can't discuss FOOTBALL, don't post on a football site. Understand?
