Following yesterdays results in the First Federal league of Serbia-Montenegro, Crvena Zvezda having crashed 1-2 at home to Buducnost Podgorica are out of the hunt for League honours. On a Day when Partizan could only draw 1-1 with Zeta, the gap between the two Belgrade giants has widened to an unbridgeable 8 points.
Given that there are only 2 more games remaining for the teams it is certain that Partizan are champions and they will most likely receive the trophy at their final home League game of the season.
They will represent Serbia-Montenegro( formerly Yugoslavia up to 2003) in next season's Champions League. In 2003-2004 they made the group stages of the competition and were up against it in a group that included Marseilles and Real Madrid. Despite this they remained unbeaten at home ( drawing all three games 1-1) under their former coach Lothar Matthaeus. This year they will be hoping for a group stage placing but with a little bit easier opposition.
Crvena Zvezda lost their chances of winning the League not on their two games with Partizan ( which were both draws) but to two inexplicable home defeats against opponents they would have been expected to beat.
Congratulations to the Black and White Stripes but I am sure next season will be another mighty stuggle for supremacy between the top two.
I ja sam Zvezdash :D

There's still two weeks to go ( it's a 30 game League season this year)so Vojvodina could go up a few places or down a few places. But Novi Sad rocks I totally agree.

No, its FK Hajduk Beograd... :ball:
Hajduk Split (now of Croatia) havent played in the same league as Zvezda or Partizan since 1991.

The tiny Cape Verde Islands off the coast of West Africa may be on the verge of history of qualifying for the World Cup Finals for the first time in their history. The islands never played in a qualifying competition until the last world cup, but since the recruitment of Portugese born players of Cape Verdian origin, Cape Verde needs to beat South Africa at home in their next qualifier, and if they do so, it looks like they will be making history. They are currently second in Group Two of the African Zone on 10 points with South Africa leading on 12. Their final game is away to Uganda, who are propping up the group while South Africa are away to Burkina Faso, both struggling sides that are well out of contention for the World Cup.

I don't know why this is in the Partizan topic, but yeah it would be great. Six years ago they never played an official qualifier, the island is very remote and poor and inhostile, and has not even half a million inhabitants. If they qualify, that's the beauty of football: a complete underdog that out of the blue can surprise the whole world. This is truely David vs Goliath, and it's always great to see David win now and then.
