Was just talking to a buddy of Georgie's there, and he said Doyler will be going to Reading in July. Apparently he has a clause in his contract that allows him to go for 100,000 (dunno if thats £ or €). Hope this ain't true, but I'm beginning to fear the worst :( Hopefully we can get some decent clauses in the contract :o

Hmm and isn't Eamon Dolan, Pats twin, a coach at Reading?

It was mentioned in the match report in Saturday mornings Sun that Steve Coppell was at the game watching him and by the report he didn't do his chances any harm, even scoring again that's 3 in3 since he came back.

Would he really leave a team that's almost certain imo to get european football every year for the next 5 years,be it champs league or Uefa cup for a team in Englands 1st division who if they do manage to go up to the premiership are almost destined to come back down the following year.

Anyway from what i know of Reading it's defenders they need not strikers.

The economics of Reading vs Cork City mean that they can offer Kevin *4/5 times the money hes on at Cork and it wont be a big deal.

Reading are owned by a multi millionaire and Cork are owned by a chairman with much more modest funds.

As Damien Richardson spoke about at the supporters meeting at the start of the season, its up to Cork City to grow and provide Kevin a platform so that he can achieve his ambitions here in Cork.

So if he leaves ... he might end up on a bench if not the reserves !!!

If he makes that choice then it'll be saying something about the guy !!

Please Doyler .... make the right decision .... Yo yo club or Europe every year for the next five at least.

I honestly think he is smart enough to stay but if he has any doubts then the right manager is in place to convince him to stay..........as long as he has his dictionary with him for the talk.

as D2 Red said above, Steve Coppell was at the WUFC v CCFC match on Friday night according to your man Pat McCauliff on the radio.

Coppell was there alright in the stand. Lets not over-react though yet, they've said nothing about Doyler.

Not to panic lads. Coppell was there to look at Daryl Murphy with a view to poaching him from under McCarthys nose. Straight from horses mouth. Apparently he could not see what all the fuss was about but he reckons McCarthy is a canny boy and so came to see.

Anyone know anything about those UEFA(or FIFA?) laws about young player fees and particularly about how much his previous clubs get. Think it's about 15% to be shared. Anyone else know anything?

RTE radio.....
On the Saturday sports program they had interviews from every game, including the Limerick v Cobh game. Decent interviews with Owen Heery/Doolin from $hels/Drogs, Stephen Kenny: Derry/Bray, Farrelly from Bohs/Longford.

For WUFC/City?
They had some fawning interview with Coppell about his Manure days, NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to say about the game or from anybody involved in it.
Pathetic....

As for Doyler, any young lad is going to try a decent club like Reading if he gets a chance. He will get paid a hell of a lot more than any club can pay him here, and he will get to pit himself agianst better players.
Playing the likes of Longford, Bohs, and Rovers isn't much of a challenge for him.....;)
Kerr might even think he could play for Ireland ......

Ah for god sake....will everyone cop on. the young fella is hardly goin to stay with a club like cork city when he can play for a very decent reading team who always finish in the top 10 of the championship, and anyone who says that he'd be better off stayin with cork city is a damn liar and a fool.

Anto McC

I say that he is better off staying put,Whether(spell?) he's good enough or not(which he is imo) i don't think he will be given a fair chance to shine and will be left on the bench and by the time he decides he wants to go back to Cork City, they while playing regular European football will have raised their standards and probably will have replaced him with better players because the League is improving so rapidly.

I don't want him to go, it would be a massive blow to City, because IMO he's the best player in the eircom League. If he was to stay, I honestly believe that in 4-5 years time, he could be playing champions league football at CCFC- ok, we'd need a few lucky breaks along the way, but its possible. But, the guy is young, he's got bags of talent and he wants to have the best career he possibly can- if he goes to Reading, he WILL get in the first team (sooner or later) because he's a class act, and this is a team that could very likely be in the Premiershi* in a year or two. If I was Doyler, it would be no contest- Reading would win out every time, much as I hate saying it.

Decent training facilities and stadium, opportunity to play in the Premiership and a nice handsome sum in Cork's coffers? There's very little case for people to dissuade him and hopefully in a couple of years you can look back fondly when he's a full Irish international and say you played a part in his development. The lad has a career to mould for himself and why settle for a chicken leg when you have the breast on a plate for you?! :)

There's one very good reason to dissuade him- he's a class player (the best in the league) and we don't want to lose him. No team wants to lose their most talented player.

Resigned to losing him without a fight before he's even gone, get a grip of yourselfs. That is one reason why Cork will not win the league this season

Who's resigned to it? I hope he stays, but common sense dictates that if a club thats finished in the top 10 of division 1 in England (or whatever its called now) wants him, then its a good move for him, and he's likely to go

he's a shels fan. he's been delusioned that top stars of english football like Alan Moore are just waiting for june so they can get the boat over.

i'd hate if doyle left, our goal should be getting to the point where players like superkev dont have to make the choice between ambition and loyalty. we're not there yet though.

Simple answer.....Yes. It's not as if we're talking about going to Kidderminster or something.

It would be a much higher standard (those who might argue should take off the blinkers) so I can't believe you'd even question it

Why is he likely to go when he will never get to play uefa cup or champions league football with them and it's not a strech of the imagination to say that they could easily be fighting relegation to the 2 division in 2 years.

Btw good luck tonight.

Bigger crowds, better wages, better quality opposition every week, better chance to get noticed by a premiership team, possibility of getting promoted to the premiership.....

I don't understand you Corkies at all, your always spouting about being a big club and better than everyone else then when the time comes to stand and be counted as a big club you go running. Why don't you lot have enough confidence in your team and it's future to try and convince Doyler to stay because he's already at a big club with a big european future.

Would be a massive loss to lose Doyle. Hes till only 21 & definitely one of best players in the league. Alongside Hoolahan has most potential of any player in the eL.

I think when a player is on fulltime wages no club has an need to sell any player unless they choose to do so. When a player only part-time then hard to stand in the way of any player making a living from football.

Coppell was hardly going to admit on the radio who he was really interested so can't read too much in that. Anyone know if he was at the cross last night?

IF he was to leav then city fans would truelly know the legacy of Pat Dolan & his brother. :(

I'd be surprised if he left for Aberdeen as wouldn't offer same opportunities.

Everything hes said up to now suggests he wouldn't jump at any foreign club but just the right opportunity.

Doyler was in the Maryborough House hotel Sunday evening talking to Dolan for over an hour. Make of that what ye will...

IMO there's a good argument that PD should stay out of city business at the moment, even if a lot of the players are still friendly with him. It doesn't help the club, or Pat himself...

surprise. IMO, there's a good argument for Dolan ****ing off and not coming back.

Be interesting if Dolans followers would still worship the big man if this was to be proven. I'm sure they'd find some excuse to justify.

Well to be fair, Doyler is close to Dolan and has been for his whole career?
He is bound to seek his advice, and Dolan would only be looking our for the best interests of Kevin himself...

I think Dolan would be looking for Kev's best interest, but he should still stay out of it. to be honest, even commenttaing on City matches and criticising decisions a few months after leaving the club makes him look bitter and as if he's stirring.

But when he's meeting players and advising them (believe me it wasn't a sociable cup of coffee) in public when there's rumours about interest from his brother's club - well, he knows that he is undermining the manager and chairman. IMO he should stay well clear

if doyle does go and "joffy" does not return to his previous form ( which i doubt he will ). We can forget about challenging for honours this season and will be lucky to have setanta / european football next season.
