https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/mohan-names-under-19-squad-for-qualifiers-in-austria strong looking squad. Great to see okoflex commit. The arrival of noss, oko flex and cannon adds alot to us in areas we needed given that knight, idah, connell and parrott have moved up. Bit surprised bazuna not there as he not in the 21s and these fixtures are in the same window.

Lads like mceneff and ferry are injured I think lovely to see everitt just back from injury.

Republic of Ireland squad
Goalkeepers:Jimmy Corcoran (Preston North End), Sean Bohan (Bohemians)

Defenders:Mazeed Ogungbo (Arsenal), Mark McGuinness (Arsenal), Oisin McEntee (Newcastle United), Andrew Omobamidele (Norwich City), Timi Sobowale (Manchester City), Lewis Richards (Wolves)

Midfielders:Festy Ebosele (Derby County), Jamie Bowden (Tottenham Hotspur), Barry Coffey (Celtic), Conor Noss (Borussia Monchengladbach), Adam O’Reilly (Preston North End), Ross Tierney (Bohemians)

Forwards:Matt Everitt (Brighton & Hove Albion), Ryan Cassidy (Watford), Armstrong Okoflex (Celtic), Alex Gilbert (West Bromwich Albion), Tom Cannon (Everton), Tyreik Wright (Aston Villa)

Bazunu seems to have been completely excluded, which is really strange
And there was this from the U21 squad announcement earlier in the week - https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/ireland-u-21-squad-named-for-armenia-sweden-qualifiers

Gavin Bazunu will link up with the Republic of Ireland U-19 squad ahead of their UEFA qualifying round matches this month.

Unless city have asked for him to stay given the ederson injury but seems unlikely. Played for their 18s today

Austria and Switzerland seems a tough group for this early stage

He played in the UEFA Youth League as well during the week.
It is possible that they've asked to keep him in Manchester, and it might explain the lateness of the squad announcement - it was originally due yesterday
can a club refuse a call up for a player for underage competitive games?

I suppose if city were saying this is a chance for him to travel as 3rd keeper to a senior game if he trains great for 2 weeks it would be hard for Mohan to say we wont let him stay

Noss scored Boussia Mönchengladbach U19 second, and assisted their third, in a 3-1 win over Viktoria Koln: https://www.borussia.de/de/aktuelles-termine/news/borussia-news/news-detailansicht.html
(via google translate)

Conor Noss succeeded in the 63rd minute after a good attack through the center. Just six minutes later, Tom Gaal, who headed in from a corner of Noß, had already made the decision.
think that last bit means the third goal decided the tie!

This morning's qualifier against Switzerland has had to be postponed due to snow!
The game is rescheduled for tomorrow, but that means a shorter recovery time for the players before Saturday's game against Gibraltar

The decision must have been made very late - the teams for both sides had been announced on uefa.com: https://www.uefa.com/under19/match/2026428--switzerland-vs-republic-of-ireland/
Strong looking side for Ireland, not sure if Ebosele really was starting at full back though

in fairness, if you're going to play 3 games in a week in November, you're best avoiding hosting them in either Austria or Switzerland. Obviously Gibraltar isn't really a runner, given their lack of suitable pitches.

i guess Festy was due to play at right back, especially if he's wearing 2. The wingers look like Matty Everitt and Okoflex. Asking a lot of Festy. He's a cracking dribbler, powerful and intelligent but I'm not sure I'd trust him defending a ball over his head into the channel.

Surprised Bowden didn't start as well...

The squad is loaded with centre-halves and deathly sparse on full-backs. Dunno why Tom Gaston wasn't involved. Thought he was excellent when he played in the elite phase of last year's tournament. Really composed and intelligent footballer.

Ebosele seems to be playing full back a bit at derby this season. Surprised Richard's not left full I though the arsenal lad was mainly a centre half. Hard to see how it would be a back 5 either unless okoflex was going to be the other full back

2-1 down now. In the other group game Austria are 14-0 up. They scored 7 goals in 12 minutes between the 72nd and 84th minutes. 53 goal attempts.

weirdly it remained 0-0 for the first 20 minutes.

Its a riduculously tough group for the top seeds in the group. Compared to the other groups its a bit of a joke. (The gibaltar reuslts will be discounted in the final standings). Have to beat Austria to have any chance now. Finishing second will be a good result now. A few shock winners of other groups and a big gun could be avoided in the elites. Austria will be tough.

And it finishes 13-0 to Ireland, with nine goals in the second half. Pretty sure that's a record at any level for the men's team.
Wright with four, Bowden and McGuinness (who came on half time) with two each, Richards, Omobamidele, Gilbert, Cannon and Cassidy with the others.

Austria 2-1 Switzerland.
As it stands we have to beat Austria either
A) By one goal and hope the Swiss beat Gibraltar by 13 or less
B) Beat Austria by 2 goals

1-0 down at half time, and a player down after Coffey was shown a straight red

Austria should have had a player sent off right after but he pretended to be injured and the ref only gave a yellow.

Lost two-nil, and had a second player sent off. Austria also had a player sent off late on for a second yellow.
Switzerland won 16-1 against Gibraltar in the other group game, with one player scoring seven goals

First time I'd say for a long time we have not got out of the first qualifying group. Pity looks like alot of talented players who maybe haven't played alot together.

That was as bad a performance as I've seen from an Ireland underage team in some time. Some come down from reaching the semi finals last year, I actually thought that team might qualify us again and go on a run to the Under 20 World Cup, but they were really poor today.

There are some very highly rated players in that squad but they have a lot of developing to do if they're going to match the lads in the age group just above them. Hopefully the early exit doesn't result in any players defecting to other countries. As they've played competitively for us they'll be gone for good if they go.

Any implications for Tom Mohan’s future? Is he still the top dog for the under 21 job next summer? I would think Robbie Keane is also in the running giving the awkward overlapping of contracts, and Keith Andrews may fancy it too. I’ve heard Jim Crawford is a class apart from a coaching standpoint, so Kenny may be anxious to bring him into senior set up
