View Full Version : SSE Airtricity League statement on Limerick FC

"The SSE Airtricity League First Division table will be adjusted to reflect the Club Licensing Committee decision on Limerick FC.

Following the appointment of an Examiner by the High Court in September 2019, Limerick FC has been sanctioned by the independent Club Licensing Committee and deducted 26 points.

The club will be deemed to have finished 10th in the 2019 SSE Airtricity League First Division table."

A signal to the current regime that they won't get a license next year? Or getting punishment out of the way when it doesn't matter?

Anyhow, congrats to the four clubs who move up a place.

Not that it makes a difference, but I'd have expected it to have been for next season.

Although there's no way to know which Limerick FC, if any, will be in the division.

The current one are a million miles away from ever getting a licence again, you'd imagine.

Why 26 I wonder? Just to ensure we finished bottom?

Why 26 I wonder? Just to ensure we finished bottom?

It’s a subliminal message from the FAI dismissing the notion of an All Ireland League. Had it been a 32 point deduction it would have been a message that it was all systems go.

Must be about avoiding a deduction for next season. They don't need one more thing to scare off any takeover attempt.

All a bit sad really.

From the league that docked Longford 6 points and Shamrock Rovers 8 points for the exact same thing - being all the points they had at the time.

It's good to see consistency in league rules.

Deducting points after the season ends  so clean slate and effectively no penalty for the shenanigans at Limerick last year. That will certainly teach club owners not to act the ******

Saw something in papers today that there is a deadline set for end of the this month and if Limerick cant come up with a feasible plan they wont be allowed in the first division next season!

If it was going to be the same regime next season I'd agree.

But the reality is that the current owner will not be involved in LOI next season. If there is a Limerick club, it will either be the existing club taken over by somebody, or a new entity. A 26-point penalty hanging over next season makes either development less likely.

A 26 point deduction for next season would have been a terrible idea, nobody would touch Limerick then,at least if the new entity can start with a clean slate it might have a chance.
Is there a danger of no club at all next season osarusan?

I'm sure the FAI would want at least a skeleton Limerick team to make up the numbers, so they aren't left with a nine-team First Division. Right now the mood is so downbeat I'm not convinced that even that will happen. Best news recently came from the U-13 team. Next milestone is the end of this month, which was the new deadline set in the examinership process.

How did they come up with a figure of 26 points?

Fair enough but there really needs to be some sanction to stop the shysters from getting involved. would hope there would be a Limerick club next season, but it must be properly run and not given a licence simply because the FAI 'would like' a Limerick club.

I assume they just deducted the figure that would place them last in the table.

Wasn't there talk of a Kerry team entering the First Division with John Caulfield being on board?

What form will Limerick take next year as I assume this current entity will join City & 37 on that scrap heap of history.

The best suggestion I’ve seen they have literally nothing to lose. That’s from the outside looking in of course, id imagine Limerick football folk are eager to preserve their own identity.

"Limerick 2" might appeal to the GAA crowd when the results come in.

Limerick 2 1, UCD 4

But 2-1 is still better than 4 points, so that's a Limerick win.
