Can any one shed some light on the following clubs on the above list, who I've honestly never heard of?:

Alton United
Fordsons
Brideville
Dolphin

I'm thinking that maybe Fordsons had something to do with the Henry Ford & Sons plant???

Dolphin??...any link to the Dolphin Rugby lot in Cork??

Fordsons were the first of the multitude of Cork teams. I don't know much about the rest

Fordsons

Fordsons changed their name to Cork within two years of joining the league...then Cork United, Cork City, Cork Hibernians, Cork Athletic, Cork Celtic, Cork United again, Cork Alberts, Cork City again...! ;) They were the first LoI team from Cork City anyway!

So Fordsons were from Cork then??? :D

Wonder then if they actually did originate in the Motor factory??

I think they did actually. Most of the players had jobs in the factory.

As far as I know Dave Barry's grandad played for them when the won the Cup. Harry Buckle was his name or something like that.

Also I'm 99% sure that Alton Utd were from Belfast but affiliated with the FAI rather than the IFA for some reason.

Brideville were from Dublin I think.

There was 11 years between Rovers winning the 1983 cup and the 1994 cup so i reckon theres a bit of an omen there (1994+11=2005). Could be our year.

Alton United were from West Belfast and were direct affiliates to the Football Association down here after the split for a while. Faded from view having won the Cup down here. Not sure if they affiliated to the IFA after or disappeared!

Brideville were from Dublin and from 1927 until they resigned from the League spent most of their time playing home games at the Harold's X Greyhound Stadium, which in the 1970's and 1980's was a home ground for Shelbourne and from 1989 to 1993 I think St. Patrick's Athletic.

Does that mean College are certs to win the Cup in 2006 cause it would be 22 years since we won it? :D
