View Full Version : FAI online shop - just like the organisation - DISGRACE!

I just happened to log into the FAI shop today to see if there was any new merchandise available relating to the new away kit and it's associated leisure wear.
Firstly there is no pic of the new away kit and indeed not even a mention of it. I saw in Lifestyle at the weekend a big window advertisement for the kit but there is nothing in the FAI site or shop and a national newspaper already printed a picture approx. 5 weeks ago!
I began to think that there may be a good reason for the lack of 'new' merchandise. May be there isn't any i thought - so I decided to 'google' and see if any of the major on-line stores had any official Ireland clothing on sale that the official store aren't selling or even acknowleging as coming soon.
Not to my surprise if I'm honest, I found a site which is stocking the brand new never before seen Ireland tracksuit (at least I haven't seen it in irish shops or the FAI store) and Rain Jackets as well as stocking the never released here Ireland away shirt with the new logo as worn in Switzerland last year.
This is the site
http://bigsoccershop.com/shop-by-co...ional-team.html
How is there new OFFICIAL Ireland merchandise on sale worldwide yet none in Ireland or in the FAI store???
We all know that in this day and age, merchanising is important to a lot of football clubs and countries. It's a valuable source of income for organisations and imagine that worldwide sales of merchandise enhances profit and allows it to be redisributed as the organisation sees fit. Unfortunetly we are not maximising anything in this department at present.
In some ways, I wish I could lay the blame at the door of umbro, but they have proven recently with the launch of the England kit in conjuction with the FA that they know how to market their brand and get maximum exposure. Our organisation once again comes across as two bit and half ar$ed when it comes to dealing with issues of running the organisation effectively as a business. If there is a marketing manager at the FAI, he/she should hang his head of shame.
Surely he/she should be doing that anyway, if thay have been involved of that monstrosity that is our new crest!
One day, sometime soon, the FAI will do something right.

To be fair the whole web-site is pretty pants. But yeah the shop and whatever IRELAND FANS is are both really half arsed and badly thought out. They yet again make a mockery of themselves and us.
Considering the fanfare that went with the relaunch of site its fairly pathetic.
Sectuons often no updated for months, eL tables are sh!te formattiing, all real amateur.
I don't even like the look & feel to it.

Havent ye learnt yere leason lads? Dont even bother with that site  Its funny how Cork City who probably survive from week to week can get a website together that wins the Golden Spider award, and the FAI who are supposed to be so profesional and have plenty more money to waste, come up with what looks like a students final year project before he's gone and graduated & not have to bother maintain it.
But Im not really surprised, Ive learned to expect this level of incompitance now. :(

As a person who runs websites, the one thing it takes is constant effort. Too much fanfare is attached to launches of sites and then once the launch the people involve just let it go and then by the time they get to actually think about updating it, there is another relaunch planned. But this time it will be different....pants...If you want websites on the league you have to visit ones like cork and longford (and shels but I run that so I shouldn't blow my own horn) and Derry and the likes. UCD launched a new site, Sligo and the rest of the teams in the league are all putting an effort into there to vatsly improve the sites, but come along to the FAI and its "gammy" :) (I like that word too) .

There are many reasons why fai.ie is not what was envisaged and planned. :p

I don't see why they changed it at all, was I one of the few who thought the old one before this one was excellent? It looked far superior anyway imo.
Lads if the FAI website is the worst thing about the organisation, we'll be doing alright...

I think it looks alright. The away top is, with the exception of the recent black and orange kits, nearly always white so there's only so much they can do in terms of colour, and it appears to be the same kind of design as the current home top so I'll probably get one anyway.

Lads, at the last game I met a guy and his pals who all had the home long sleeve jersey's on, without the eircom logo. I asked them where they got them and they said the Umbro factory in Dublin. Anyone have any contacts or numbers for this factory?? Anyone know where it is?? I didn't know there was one in Ireland, let alone Dublin.

Thats interesting :D I didn't know there was one either......it sounds a bit suspect. You can get yourself cheap fake Ireland umbro gear on eaby comin from the East but the quality is crap or generally tends to be after a few washes. Would be interested in that address if there was a factory alright. I have only one recent Ireland Jersey without the Eircom crap on it and thats player issue and they nearly always have numbers and details on. Its rare to see an Ireland jersey with nothin on it!

Was just onto them there...They say they can only sell to retailers or teams. I'd say if you were a team you could get whatever wanted done. ie your own specifications...Maybe some of the lads ye met knew someone in there or worked there themselves.

the FAI online store is not run by Blarney Woolen Mills but by the FAI themselves using a third party fulfilment company -I'd expect this to change..
They had a grea t range of merchandising ready for market but a problem with Umbro put paid to that.

HA! dont mention the war! I have had some dealings with Umbro's Irish distributors. What is it with them? Flaky is not the word. The FAI really know how to pick 'em. They couldn't supply me 30 Ireland shirts 2 weeks after their release date!

Say if 20 of us on here wanted the new away jersey without the Eircom logo, could we put our money together and put in an order for say 20 long sleeve jerseys, of various sizes? You could make up a club name, or get them put down in the name of a junior club that one of us is involved in. I presume that you'd get the jersey's at below the retail price as well, seeing that it is for a club. I can't see how it wouldn't work to be honest. I've often seen Nightowls or inter-firm teams playing in the kits of clubs or countries, so it wouldn't be an unusual request. If it worked, you'd be getting the jersey without the ****ty logo, plus at a discount as well. :)

Sorry to dig this one up from the grave, but is it just me or can anyone else not find the FAI online shop? This link also doesnt work. Maybe they closed down for the winter :p
I think the online shop is closed due to lack of stock i.e. nothing to sell.

i used to work for an online merchandising fullfillment company five years ago. i got on to the FAI, asking them if they wanted us to do their online shop (we had a large client base and high quality shop, with zoomable and rotateable images of the products), but they said they already had struck a deal for an online shop. it took two years after that untill their shop came online, and it was really bad. a real cowboy job. they could have had a proper shop five years ago, yet now it's 2006 and they are still arseing about. it's a shame, because they have a lot of online selling potential, what with the large diaspora following the team.

in fairness to Umbro, The stuff is made six months in advance. The stores buy it then & book there orders then. They don't hold stock.
