View Full Version : Sympathy for the Devil
Just realised how much we do criticise the club after being on the phone to Nempton who is at the Dundalk game. We're 3-0 up, away from home, after about 30 mins of the game, but apparantly we're not playing that well!!! So to JoeSoap (who in no way am I associating with Lucifer here) I will try to try to not be as critical in future!! :D

Obviously a great win for Limerick last night especially when we are playing against Cobh next Friday and gives us an opportunity to close the gap on them. In the first half our first and third goals resulted from counter attacks while the second was from a corner. The third goal was an excellent finish from Robbie. A brilliant atmosphere at the match with every Limerick fan singing and jumping for the majority of the ninty minutes. Although Lim Till I Die and John D's singing leaves a lot to be desired :p
Kildare dominated Limerick for large parts of the first half. Limerick were playing in the same manner as they have done in the past games against Dublin and Galway. While some individual performances were good the team performance at best was average at times. NOC is not picking the right starting eleven for matches although the substitutions he made in the second half helped improve the team performance and I would guess he has a far better idea of who he should start against Cobh. While Kildare scored an early goal in the second half, Limerick were comfortable and created chances to extend the lead. In my opinion the second half performace by Limerick was far better than the first. We should be looking for more of the same against Cobh.
Mooney - Solid throughout, produced one good save and he waved at us when we asked him to, so an extra .5 for him because of that. 7.5/10
O'Mahony - An improved performance from the Galway game. His distribution was better and this time played short passes which allowed Limerick to retain the ball rather then give it away. Still needs to press forward more and support Kearns. 7/10
Tobin - Like Steven a better performance after Galway. Just needs to find consistency with his play especially with his passing. Its obvious he is still getting up to speed with senior level and clearly is a very good player. 7/10
Wolfe - Another good performance. He defended well all night and looks quite comfortable in the Limerick team now. 7.5/10
Finuncane - As you would expect from Paul but still has to be careful with his positioning because of his lack of pace. 7.5/10
Kearns - He worked hard but wasn't much of a threat going forward. When Nolan is fit Kearns will be dropped. 6/10
Donnellan - Covering back defensively he is not good at it, slightly better than Kearns going foward though but not a great performance from Brian. With Young coming on for him, his position could be under threat especially as Young looks a good player. 6/10
Barrett - A superb performance. He covered every blade on the field. He won the ball in the air and the ground. He offered an extra threat going forward. My man of the match. 8/10
McCarthy - He wasn't used to full effect by playing him in a flat four midfield. As always he worked hard and played some nice balls through when we were attacking. Was pushed up front in the second half and should have done better with some half chances that arose. 7/10
O'Brien - His performance in the first half should be the base from which he relaunches his season. He can still improve but worked harder than what we have seen from him all season and linked up the team play well. Faded in the second half and was substituted early. 7/10
Kelliher - Scored a hat-trick with the third goal by far the best, looked threatening at times and worked hard all night. 8/10
Subs - McAuley replaced CP early in the second half, he shored up the midfield which only strengthened Limerick. Kildare looked less likely to run through our midfield and score. He definitely looks like a good signing for Limerick and getting closer to match fitness. 7/10
Young replaced Donnellan, gave a better balance to the Limerick team and looks to be a good player. Its too early to be making assessments on him but could be our future left winger. Not on long enough to get a rating.
Ahearne replaced Wolfe towards the end of the match. Not on long enough to get a rating

It was a great night in Newbridge. To get a victory like that when the team's performance still needs some improvement is reason to be optimistic. It was so important to get that first away win. I just hope we can build on it now as our next few games are ones that we should be looking to get close to maximum points from.
I don't think Robbie will be credited with the hat-trick but he put in another great performance. It was good too to see Mick Aherne getting a run. Pity he wasn't on long enough to impress enough for a starting place.
I didn't think that Lim Til I Die and JohnD were all that bad. :D With a few more trips like that we should all be able to improve our singing. Can't wait for friday night.
Bring on Queenstown!

I think Colin will be credited with the first, as the shot Robbie took would have been cleared off the line if it didn't deflect off his foot, but what a performance, by him, and the rest of the 14 that played. Cracker for the third. All good!!!

Thanks Kerry Blue for sticking up for my singing !!. I think it's Nempton who is slightly tone deaf !! We should try to start the songs in the same key though (F Sharp anyone ? :) )
Overall a great day , Great Result. The team showed great appreciation for our efforts.
Lets try to replicate the away support at home. Everyone get behind the goal in the shed for Fridays' game.
All the best

Wasn't it played in Dundalk though smart arse?? or was I misinformed?? and if i was than the culprit is none other than Nempton himself! granted he had a few rock shandys in him at the time though so I probably shouldn't have taken it at face value.... :p

Major case of crossed wires here lads. To clarify:
Limerick played Dundalk a couple of weeks ago in Drogheda United's United Park because Dundalk don't have a pitch yet this season.
Limerick played Kildare County in Newbridge last Saturday night.
Hope this clears it up.... :o

When I was in Newbridge watching Limerick playing Kildare last Saturday and we were winning three nil at the time and you rang me, at what point in the conversation did I tell you we were in Dundalk. Wait a second sunshine Charlie, I didn't. When we returned from the match and we were talking about it in Flannerys did SLK or I mention Dundalk, the answer is no btw :p I think you were listening to the voices in your head again, go buy a smoothie for yourself :D
Case closed Matlock.
