Fair play to him. The guy deserves it, if ony for the ridiculous amount of stick he gets from his own fans. His all round game is getting better by the game- thought he held the ball up and spread it round quite well tonight, got a super goal and his touch is improving as well

Agree entirely with you Eanna.

Thought he took his goal really well. He's strong (ok not very fast but we have Doyler next to him), and his touch is improving.

He puts himself about which takes pressure off Doyler.

Fair play to the guy .......... and he's still only 21!

His touch was much better in Dalymount last week. He is getting stronger in the ait too & Rico should continue to make him into a targetman type player.

Agreed. It is good to have some sort of Plan B to the devastating running/attacking/destroying of defenders that Doyler and O'Flynn can do.

On todays irish indo, Devine, O'Callaghan and Kearney made the Irish team of the week. On one other note in the indo that i read it had late results for all the el games except Rovers -v- Bray and Galway -v- Cobh.

Shelbourne's Richie Baker is Eircom Player of the Month
12 May 05

Richie Baker, 25, was the star of the beginning of the season for Shelbourne since returning to Tolka Park from New England Revolution. He has scored six goals from his right wing position.

After starting the season on the bench, Baker made his first start in the Setanta Cup against Portadown scoring twice in a 3-3 draw before following that up with a goals against Shamrock Rovers, Longford Town and Bray Wanderers, twice, in the eircom League.

Baker joined Shelbourne from schoolboy outfit Stella Maris in 1998 and quickly established himself as a first team regular while winning caps for the Republic of Ireland at Under 18, 20 and Under 21 level.

During his first stint at Tolka Park, Baker won three League titles (1999/2000, 2001/02 and 2003) and one FAI Cup in 2000, before moving to Major League Soccer side New England Revolution in 2004.

After helping the Boston-based club to the play-offs, Baker returned to Dublin with Shelbourne at the start of this season and, despite the strength of the Shelbourne squad, has become a permanent fixture in the first XI.

Exactly how should Behan have got Player of the Month when most of you seem to suggest he wasnt even Corks best player?

Baker has been great since his return and has proved a few people wrong. He has stood up to the three players who were taked about most and has onfind Ryan to the bench/left wing. Apart from the sending off he couldnt have dne much more..

Fully deserved

I believe Higgins thought Behan received Eircom player of the month when in fact it was Cork Citys Player of the Month he received.
Baker did indeed get the Eircom one.

I was talking about the endless posts for Georgie over the past couple of weeks. I thought from reading those that you lot seemed to think George was at the top of his game.

Im surprised to hear it went to Behan

Higgins, Behan was Cork City's player of the month, not the EL player of the month. I think you're getting confused :p :D
