What's with all the byes ?! That's crazy.
No non-league sides in this year's competition, and Rovers B are ineligible.
So first round is to reduce 19 teams down to 16.

Another shambles of a draw from the FAI. Just when you think they're starting to turn a corner and do some good, they come up with nonsense like that.
Waiting 4 months for football to restart in the LOI, and we get a 5 minute conversation with Jim Crawford about the under-21 international team, beginning with "I never really liked the FAI Cup".
Barely audible, filmed on a phone, and a totally amateur production.
Not to mention drawing 13 byes instead of just doing a second round draw.
The only thing I'd say about doing the next round draw is if you had drawn say Dundalk away 2nd round you might be more inclined to rest your team in Rnd 1 as there would be little chance of progression past rnd 2
What's with all the byes ?! That's crazy.
Only way to have an even number and from last 16 stage, also with one round less this year for most clubs, it was the only way it could be done. This way the winners of the 3 games will join the 13 sides who got byes.
We will have Waterford at home twice within 4 days.

Reminded me of a question that came up in one of our zoom quizes during lockdown. Dundalk's last defeat in 90 mins in the FAI Cup, who was it against?
QF replay v Rovers in 2014.

Thank God Dundalk got that extra game. One game closer to the amount of games their squad is designed for ;)

At this point its game time that is needed so an additional one and maybe 2 more competative games before playing SRFC in a potential crunch tie in Oriel not including Europe. In regards to Europe it could be a useful game to have under the belt also.

What a relief to get through tonight. We do love a last minute goal in the cup. We were abysmal as per usual and was dreading penalties. Dinanga pops up with a brilliant goal to win it.

Gutted to have lost. Joe Gorman was very poor for Dinanga goal. He took it well. We should taken more advantage of ye going down to 10 men.

No stand out tie in terms of rivalries, I guess Rovers v Cork would have to be the pick of the bunch there being the only all Premier match up, although should be relatively straightforward.
Hopefully some big guns take each other out in the next round to clear a pathway to the final. :-)

I'd rather Cork away than Cobh.
Beaten there 2 years ago and struggled to get past them last year. Tricky draw, especially in our current form. A couple of the newbies might not fancy it in Cobh. Hopefully it's on WatchLOI.

Could have been worse, but Bray is a potential banana skin for Harps. Tricky place to go at the best of times, they've a decent squad there this year and will be well up for it.

I wasnt at Bray game Nigel but I heard from ppl at game that ex town fav Gary Shaw is playing out of his skin for them and of course our ex playr and ex coach Gary Cronin is there now so they are a danger now to say the least.

The Cobh Dundalk game is on WatchLoi. I’m guessing it’ll have a high audience just to see the drama on the sidelines.

Wouldnt be surprised that Cobh will beat Dundalk. They beat us well the other night and they have made some gem of signings.

Think all on WatchLOI except Athlone and Bray. Our game wasn’t going to be but they decided to do it to make up for debacle in Cork. With the feed as opposed to on the pitch.

I never twigged the Cup games would be on LOITV. Not sure why, I just assumed it would be League games.
Awww, that was my 2000 post. Not sure what is sadder. That it took me that long to get to 2000 or that I’ve been posting on this site for 17 years!!!

Just watched Drogs v Derry on WatchLOI. (Hadn't seen WatchLOI before).
Good commentator.
Camera work OK.
Slightly disappointed there was no second camera. But no replays of incidents?!? How difficult is it to show replays? Shoddy and amateurish.

Yep replay (lack of) was a pain - Clancy was furious about something leading to the first goal - a replay would have been useful to see why etc.
I enjoyed the game but always felt as it went on the part time vs professionals would be the difference in fitness etc. Good to see the Drogs looking more solid in the last few games - good prep for our more important match vs Cabbo (up next)

I’ve no issue with that. I’d say all management teams have been at future opponents games since the restart.

I think Clancy thought the ball went out of play in the lead up to the goal. I've watched a replay (League's social media accounts have them) of the goal, and you can't tell from the camera angle.
Agree that Derry looked more likely to win the longer it went on, but can't say that Drogs deserved to lose. We were lucky to get the late goals, but you'll take it.

Comfortable for Harps in Bray,2 first half Kogler headers done the damage and good to see the big Austrian find a bit of form,Keegan got sent off pretty early in the second half more or less ending the game as a contest.
Drogheda’s chairman has taken a swipe on Twitter, only seen the Derry goals so can’t comment.

Are any fans of other clubs planning buy the Cobh v Dundalk game for the curiosity value of the DFC management issues, that the wouldnt bother otherwise?

Reading oriel web, you'd think we'd lost. That's why I don't post there!
You're never going to play freeflowing football or win 4/5-0 in Cobh. We should know that by now ffs. The last 2 years alone should have taught the newbie fans that.
I thought it was a fine performance. Possibly the most comfortable win we've ever had in Cobh from all the years down. Good work-rate, lovely first goal. Probably a cheap penalty for the 2nd but Cobh never looked like scoring - Rogers hardly touched the ball.
Great first outing for Filippo. Pity we don't play next week, but I thought the signs were very positive.

If there are no injuries involved its a bit odd that the 2 players that VP was allegedly being told to play (particularly Gatt) werent even in the squad today. Maybe the new manager isnt a such a puppet. He also changed things up a bit with team selection and dropping players that were not showing form in Gannon and Cleary especially. Efficient enough in keeping Cobh at arms length but they did get a couple of reasonable chances that with a bit more composure would have troubled us. Pitch wasnt great for the time of year and lack of football but thats being picky. Cobh didnt make it easy and it got a bit feisty in the end. Was it a peno, I think so but Kelly was looking for it before he got on the ball but drive in to the box like that at pace and the odds are in the attackers favour if they go to ground. He was clipped but already may have lost the ball. It's hard to know whether its good or bad to have a bit of a break between games now. Management team can work on things, injury to Hoban could clear up but you do want to build momentum. Noteworthy that Keegan was very much in the mix of coaching trio.

Comfortable enough in the end for us after conceding early v a decent looking UCD. Belfield is the one ground in the league where the atmosphere hasn't been affected by CV19.

Where did he go, where did Kogler come from Joe(y)?

From what I understand, it's due to be the end of September.
Probably a cheap penalty for the 2nd
Probably a cheap penalty is some euphemism for blatant cheating and a scandalous refereeing decision

The camera angle was hardly conclusive, but it did look a cheap penalty.
Anyway, it would have finished 1-0 without it, Cobh hardly seen Rogers in the 2nd half, so I don't know why Cobh officials in particular are crying so much over it.
