Great to see a Limerick man do himself and our city proud, and now will play in a champions league final.Congratulations Steve.

On another note, does anyone know of any other Limerickmen who played in a major final in Europe??

Finnan was good as was the Pool defence however Liverpool were absolutely brutal and made a mockery of the great pass and move Liverpool European Cup winning teams of the past. At least the game showed up Gerard for what he is a hod carrier with little or no talent-"He burst his lungs at Anfield last night and ran his heart out the papers said-but if all it took to be a pro footballer was to run around all night we'd all be on 100,000 a week- Gerard an imposter footballer like Beckham.Jealousy is rampant....................By the way this is a Limerick Fc forum, go back to the 1st page if you want to talk Champions League, or at least wait till we're in it in 2010 c'mon you Limerick blues............

Actually Danny Drew was definitely quoted in the press as saying that he hoped to be challenging Shels and Cork City in 3 years. I still have it somewhere I'd imagine.

I'll settle quite happily for the Champions League Final in 5 years though!

Five year plan? Sounds very Stalinist to me and indeed my Stalinist theory is lended support by the lack of reliable information of any kind from the clubs information ministry (ie the PR department ;) )

Red Star Limerick anyone? :D

Red Star Limerick! What about Limerick Soviet? The only one that I can think of,or who would come nearest would be Chris Hughton! He might have played in the 1984 UEFA Cup Final for Tottenham v Anderlecht!Although born & bred in London,I think he is the son of a Limerickwoman!

But in the white heat of a champions league semi final he was 99.9% perspiration and no inspiration. It also takes passion and heart to have the moral courage to put your foot on the ball and pass-there was no instance in the semi final where Liverpool strung three passes together.

Well I was at the game, and the amount of work Gerrard did off the ball was unreal, closing down players etc. You don't see this on TV. Also, if you had been at the game, you'd have seen the game for what it was - a very tense, tactical affair. Tactics are about doing what you have to do. Liverpool scored early and then defended like lions. Chesea are sh1t without Duff, a fact proven by his absence at the start of the season, and his absence Tuesday night. Benitez knew this, and his tactics reflected that. Saying Liverpool should have played this exciting brand of football when they didn't need to is just nieve. You from the Kevin Keegan school of football by any chance? They played that kind of football when they needed to against Juve at home, they'll do what they have to do against Milan as well ;)

[ there was no instance in the semi final where Liverpool strung three passes together.[/QUOTE] still though nice to see us in the final eh Sammy.By the tones of your messasges on this forum page I take it you are either a Man Ure fan or a Man Ure fan, cause not even Chelski fan would moan as much as you are, still each to there own.

C'mon you Limerick Blues.......................

This really has naff all to do with Limerick F.C. But while were all wondering around aimlessly ;) I'd like to say Steven Gerrard disgusts me as he stands for the decline of a once great club. He ponces around whingeing and making demands for success when he wouldn't have been fit to clean the boots of Dalglish, Souness, Toshack or Keegan to name a few. When he moves to Chelsea in the summer I'll be quite frankly glad to see the back of him

Ya I see your point all right kind of alluded to it above. Just thought while I was here moaning I'd also get my Gerrard feelings off my chest :o

I think he was one of the English past it brigade Roddy Collins brought over last year with Carlton Palmer and Efan Ekoku. Dunno what's happened to him since to be honest...

Anyway to drag this back on topic... Steve Finnan, always seemed a nice guy, best of luck to him. Would hope to see the English team whipped in the final though, the last thing we need if we're trying to attract new support to the eircom League is more rhetoric about the Premiership being the best league in Europe!

Ah come on joe, he was hardly bred here. Didn't he move to England at 1 or something? Regardless I'm not changing my mind anyway. :) Death to the Premiership! :p (and yes, I do follow a team there too).

It might take a few years but it wouldn't do us any harm in the long run. It might be nice if we weren't exporting 15-16 year old kids anymore too.
