According to his wiki:
‘On 23 July 2019, it was revealed that Harness threw in his lot with Republic of Ireland after giving up on representing England.’
Isn’t that just lovely to read ?!

Headlining press release with a League One winger. The FAI really know how to make us feel good about ourselves. This guy was supposed to be close to an under 21 call-up too I remember a while back.

As a specialist right-winger of some ability, and at 24, I think he's got a chance with us. Particularly as Kenny's preferred system necessitates wingers.
There's not many players available to us in his position and I really don't think he's a million miles away.

It was a high quality trio of goals, well worth a watch especially the last one. Consistency and not quality is the reason he's in L1 according to an ex manager of his on the highlights I watched.

Not sure but his Twitter has him down as Marcus Anthony Myers Harness so I'd imagine that his mother is Myers.
He's from Coventry as well. I'm not particularly familiar with the trends there but we have had a few players qualifying for us from Coventry down to grandparents. Shipley, Christie and James Maddison. Collins is Coventry too - not sure if he's parent or grandparent. Solihull and Birmingham are close by and have produced plenty in recent memory too which are down the grandparents including Crowley, Grealish, O'Hare. Callum Robinson was born in Northampton which isn't far off either. Think he grew up with Grealish though so probably closer to Birmingham.

Had two uncles who lived and worked there, had reason to spend time there due to that, I think Irish people went there for jobs in the usual construction & nursing but also the motor industry which Coventry was a hub of in the 40s 50s & early 60s primarily. The first exhibit you see in the museum there is thanking Irish and West Indian workers and nurses for rebuilding the place and caring for those from it after the Germans basically left very little of it standing. It would be back as far as grandparents now, yes in most cases but that sense of being Irish was forefront among people there, taxi drivers, nurses etc I noticed all wanted to tell me their roots when they heard me speak, and it was noticeable how many, lots. Still a huge rivalry between Birmingham & Coventry in traditional Irish dancing I was told for example :)
Yeah Coventry would have had a massive post war Irish population

Seems like a guy whose career is on the up, and he refers to Ireland as "my country" in interviews. Best of luck to him, we sure as hell could use a goalscoring winger. A goalscoring anything, really.

Looks a useful player; 7 goals and 4 assists this season, and we're not exactly stacked with options on the right wing. Appears to have a higher ceiling than, for example, Horgan.
Charlie McCann is also a Coventry lad I believe.

11 Championship appearances for Ipswich so far this season. Average of 21 mins per game - 2 goals and 1 assist. In the EFL Cup, 3 appearances averaging 63 mins per game - 3 assists.

Can add another two to that, in an 18 minute cameo today. Brought Ipswich back from 2-0 down to 2-2. Surely must be pushing for a starting spot at this stage? And is his paperwork actually ready for a call-up later this month if wanted?

He's been in camp with Ireland previously so it must be I would think. Interesting that we have a lot of a similar type of player playing in the Championship and knocking on the door of the Ireland squad at the moment - Harness, Szmodics, Azaz and Moran - and Kasey McAteer as wee now of course.

He's been a fairly bit-part player this season - just 7 starts, and only one sun appearance since the first week of March. No guarantees he'll be playing Premier League next season even if Ipswich do go up. Certainly the suggestion he'll likely be our best player next season seems completely unfounded

He's only started 2 games since the turn of the year, has played a total of 16 minutes in their past 7 games.
He's got one year left on his current deal, and it's almost certain he won't be a big part of any promoted Ipswich team.
Could see him possibly return to newly promoted Portsmouth for next season.

I’d still be in favour of giving him a call up.
I think there’s probably only two wingers that have really nailed down squad places in Johnston and Ogbene. After that you’ve got a handful of options: O’Dowda, Connolly, Ebosele, Robinson who could merit a call up. (I don’t really consider Sykes a winger). CJ Hamilton actually looked good in his cameo against Ukraine or whoever it was but League 1 is very much out of sight, out of mind. So I really don’t see the outstanding options that really merit a call up from that second tier list.
So I’d be happy seeing what McAteer and Harness have about them.
As an aside, I’ve always wanted Michael Duffy and Neil Farrugia to get a move that would give them a chance of a call up. They were both heralded by our international managers as having what it takes to play for us…

He'll do well to stay involved in the Ipswich first team squad if they go up, which looks likely now. Any promoted team is likely to bring in seven or eight new players at least, so squad players from the Championship are often pushed out. His best hope might be if they still see him as a player that can offer something from the bench for 20 minutes when they're chasing a game - which they'll probably be doing a lot next year.
Jack Taylor is probably the more interesting Irish player at Ipswich. He has at least been coming off the bench for them in most games so might have a better chance of making a 25 man Premier League squad for them than Harness. Entirely possible that he might be cut as well though.

Ipswich signing Jack Clarke is likely to limit Harness' Premier League minutes. Although Harness has probably overachieved by making it to the Premier League in the first place.

Well done to him on getting to the Premier League and actually getting a couple of games there as well - his two appearances were against Liverpool and Man City - not bad! But once Ipswich signed pretty much a whole new team it was as well for him to move on. He probably won't play at that level again.
Jack Taylor has stayed on, it will be interesting to see how much he features.

Thought he did really well against both City and Liverpool. Was crunched a bit by Szmodzics, Ogbene, Clarke, Philogene and the re-signing of Hutchinson. He also feels like a bit of an off the bench specialist.
Wouldn’t have made it in this squad for me but would have made other JOS squads back round September or october
