...just announced by Stuart Ashton. This, of course, is a squad drawn from the Under-21 league, which has yet to get underway (although several squad members have seen eircom League service this season.) Can't see home advantage making much of a difference. It's so unfortunate that the scheduling of this competition precludes the participation of a full eL XI which would represent our football culture in a way which isn't catered for by existing structures.

Goalkeepers:
Ciaran Kelly (Galway United) 4/5/80
Mark McNulty (Cork City) 13/10/80

Defenders:
Stephen Brennan (Shelbourne) 26/3/85
Brian Gannon (UCD) 20/7/84
Shane Guthrie (Cork City) 11/12/84
Mark McChrystal (Derry City) 26/6/84
Kevin Murray (Cork City) 16/11/83
Derek Tyrell (Drogheda United) 14/4/85

Midfielders:
Gerry Gill (Derry City) 10/7/86
Ray Lally (Cork City) 23/1/85
Paul Malone (Shamrock Rovers) 26/1/85
Darren O'Brien (UCD) 31/7/86
David Tyrell (Shelbourne) 6/5/85

Forwards:
Mark Leech (Drogheda United) 9/12/85
Shane Long (Cork City) 22/1/87
Jamie Nolan (Limerick) 12/7/84
Roy O'Donovan (Cork City) 10/8/85
Conor Sammon (UCD) 6/11/86

Who wants to see an EL XI? I support Bohs not the EL. These competitions are farcical and the Eircom League has nothing to gain from taking part, irregardless of whether or not they win.

A full eL XI would have nothing to gain from playing the Highland League & Welsh Premier. Its proper that u-21 league should be used for this.

How about development of the EL's younger players for starters. Its only right that the EL is represented by the u-21's. We have seen some very good players grace the league in recent seasons simply because they got the schooling from regular appearances in the u-21 league.
Now they get the opportunity to gain international recognition from playing against experienced players, most of whom play at a higher level.
It can only be good for the future of the league
