There's an incentive for Robbie Martin to stay. Another injury free season or two and he'll be our top scorer in history!

Updated after the Bohs game!
You'd be better off editing your original post rather than posting the whole lot over and over, Dec!

Robbie Martin's drawn level with Jayo Sherlock now on 31 league goals. Only O'Byrne, O'Brien and Griffin ahead of him!

Time to update your sig, Schumi!

I have been supplying stats to the program and to the media about UCD for many years... most of these appeared from time to time in the program in previous seasons. However this year I have not been asked.

04/06/2005, 10:00 PM
So you personally compile these? Excellent work. :ball:

The programme has been so erratic. Some weeks all appearances and team selections are listed for the season. Other weeks totally omitted. Ah the programme is fairly crap to be honest. Who exactly compiles it? They should at least let you do the stats bit seeming as you are so involved in distibuting the thing.

Poor Student

I have been compiling the stats on the first team since about 1985. I worked back to 1979 and continued on since then. When the Women's team started playing in non-Colleges football in 2002 I began compiling stats on them and am assisting their PRO in compiling stats for their website too. They won the WFAI Cup ( which qualifies Irish clubs for the Womens UEFA Cup) in their debut season coming 2nd in the League and have just completed 2-in-a row League titles and are already on course for a 3rd.
Oh and another thing they have won 3-in-a-row WFAI Cups at this stage. :)

I'd also love to see Tony Mac as club top scorer before he retires. The year he was top scorer in the League he missed almost half the season through injury.

That said if Robbie Martin stays for 5 seasons more injury free he'll be the one who makes it for sure.

Btw I don't know if this is the right thread but perhaps you could explain to me a few things about how the club is run. Obviously we're not a PLC we're an extension of the college so who exactly runs the club? Is it a committee? Who comes up with initiatives like deciding what happens with the programme, how the club markets itself etc.? Who appoints and sacks managers and managment staff? What is the club structure? Also is there any official link and communication between the supporters club and the AFC?

Yes it is run by a committee. We also have Diarmuid McNally who is the Commercial Manager of the Soccer club although I think he has a slightly different title... Soccer Development Officer.. he is one of the coaches of the Intermediates and occasionally helps out the Under 21 management at training etc among his many commercially oriented duties and he is the official link between the supporters club and the AFC as I understand it although one of the STIG lads could confirm that for you.

This season the club secretary Richard Shakespeare is in charge of the programme. The story with that publication is as follows.
1979-1981 The programme was edited by Fintan Drury and some other people. Fintan was in the first team squad in 1979-80 and scored 2 goals in 37 League game over the next two seasons.
1981/82 A team sheet was produced for League games with only 1 program produced for the Q/Final of the FAI Cup V Bohs which we lost 1-2.
1982/83 a little fold up booklet was produced.
1983/84 Brendan Dillon who was then superleague secretary was the editor and programmes were produced on about 8 occasions during the season.
1984/85 a team sheet was produced for most games and a few programmes for the remainder.
1985/86 Programmes for all home games.
1986/87 A Club newsletter was produced for each home game. Like a teamsheet only with some items of club news.
1987/88 A teamsheet.
1988/89 Programmes
1989/90 Programmes.
1990/91 Booklet for the season with inserts for each game. Myself and Brendan Dillon were the main contributors to the inserts.
1991-95 Teamsheets mostly produced with programmes on occasion.
1995/96 A Programme was produced written by me and edited by a man who was responsible for publishing Rugby magazines.. Paul Maher.
1996/97 Myself and Michael Hayes.. now with the Eircom League compiled the programme
1997/99 Teamsheet produced
1999/2001 Two seasons programmes every game edited by me.
2001/2002 Colour program produced by the committee scrapped after losing money.
2002/2003.. Club produced cheap 8 page program with colour cover given away free with ticket for attendance.
2003/2004 Two seasons programme produced by STIG team.. always lots to read in it.
2005 The colour production you see this season.

Very impressive record. :D Tis a pity. The content of the STIG team combined with the asthetic quality of the current programme would be a winning combination. CTID I don't know what you do with the programmes from each game whether you pile them in the shack or what but I am going away now for at least a month so could you please keep one aside for me for each game until I see you next and I'll settle up with you?

Also could you give me a list here of all the managers we have had and their years since we joined the LOI please? Seeing as there's no club history publication I guess you're the best person to hit up for info.

Ok I can do that for you. Unsold programmes are returned to the club officials. Diarmuid McNally may have an idea as to where back issues for the present season are to be found. I can help you with missing ones between 1999-2001 . I agree with you about present production values and last seasons content.

it is interesting to note how players who couldn't score in a fit for UCD are scoring freely for other clubs........

Who as a matter of interest? Glen Fitzpatrick is the only one that stands out.

Glen Fitzpatrick certainly isn't scoring freely. Even at Rovers, I think about ten goals was his max. Ciarán Martyn is the only one I can think of (fewer than ten, but still quite freely coming from midfield).

Mark Leech has scored a few this season. Doyle has scored a few too but no more or less prolific than when he was with us.

According to CTID's stats above, he scored 17 goals for us. If that's scoring in a fit, he must be epileptic!
