I didnt pay much attention to their keeper the other night but i am aware as to how good he is!! Seems like fellas just want to go back and play with their hometown club which is never a bad thing in my eyes!!

Agree with that - nothing wrong with local players trying to improve their hometown team - too many mercenarys around these days willing to move for the promise of 20 quid a week and a bag of crisps. I'm all for players trying to better themselves but if your own club are in the same League I like to see players playing with their own club.

Hard to argue or disagree - we've always operated on the principle of promoting our youths, giving them chances at Senior level and trying to keep them playing. Virtually all of our Senior team are "home-grown".
All the best to Podge on his return to Passage

I agree with you on that. Douglas teams always seem to be home grown. Any new signings for the hall? What players have left besides podge?

I can't confirm that signing. Haven't heard, would be disappointing, Strachan has been terrific last two seasons

Just wondering if due to the uncertain situation regarding Cork Citys future have any of last years Carrigalines u17 panel that left to join Cork Citys youth team returned to sign for Carrigaline!!

Corinthians played Kinsale down in kinsale, lovely pitch and nice set up. Cor won 3-0 with a nearly new team from last year. kinsale were missing a few but it was a good game.
I heard Kevin Mulcahy has signed for Rockmount any truth in that????

Will there be quite a few ramblers A championship lads rather play with wanderers so than have to travel around the country free of charge with ramblers?

Id expect a few, 2 or 3 anyway

Looks like the league could be delayed due to the refs going on strike. Anyone know why they are striking.

Some disagreement between the changing of referees from MSL to AUL is what is being passed around the rumour mill

Says this on the cork referee's website.. Looks like a longer pre season for all.

The Cork Branch of The Irish Soccer Referee's Society have withdrawn from all Local Leagues in Cork with effect from Thursday August 20th.
No local football (Competitive or Challenge Games) will be staffed by ISRS Cork Members until further notice.

The Committee, ISRS Cork.
Tuesday August 18th 2009.

I heard its to do with some disagreement between AUL and Aidan O Regan. So no one to Ref friendly games either?? This is a great start to the season. The season is long enough without this disruption.

Ya Billy thats exactly what I heard - the AUL have refused to allow Aidan onto their list for the coming season. Its in relation to Aidan getting cover for a game nearly 8 years ago  Alan Kelly was supposed to cover a game for him but passed the game to another referee which didn't go down well with the AUL. Aidan got grief from the AUL and the whole situation was never resolved. 8 years later and here we are!! Typical AUL - lets hope the clubs give the refs their backing this time around. From what i hear the MFA are backing the AUL.

This is quite a luaghable and childish disagreement...

The commitee on both leagues need a good kick up the arse...

Time and time again the commitees act like children and are on some sort of power trip...

Its an amateur game, lets just get on with if FFS:mad::mad:

Strike seems to be a nuclear option. Have there been discussions during the summer. This just doesn't look like an issue which has arisen in the last few days. There was an FAI representative in Cork the other night, quoted in yesterday's Echo, but no meeting seems to have taken place.

Someone, somewhere must be able to bang some heads together, get this resolved quickly. What a start to the season, matches cancelled and ultimately players and clubs suffering. Lord knows, it is difficult enough to keep everything going without further complications. All this will end up doing is driving more players off to night leagues......

According to the echo there seems to be no end in the strike and the games at the weekend are in jeporady. The proposal was not accepted so the strike continues.

Taken from the Referees Website today:

'The CORK BRANCH of the I.S.R.S met on Monday 24th August. At this meeting the Branch committee of the Cork Referees received the full backing from the 90 strong memberships for the stance that was taken to withdraw services. The Cork Branch of the I.S.R.S. have decided to enter into the Dispute Resolution Procedure and have:

Agreed to provide refereeing services with immediate effect in all Leagues.

The Cork Branch have been working tiredly behind the scenes to resolve the current depute and remain positive that a resolution will be worked out between both parties
The Secretary and Chairman of our Branch have been in Talks with Mr Gerry Mac Dermot of the FAI over the course of the day and informed him of our decision and he is aware as per the agreement we are available to referee as from 2pm today.'

From what I understand the pitch has already been revamped during the Summer as part of a 4 point plan. Part 2 commences next Monday when work on new "state of the art" dressing rooms starts. This construction will take 6 months to complete and Everton Park will reopen in February. While work is in progress all Everton's home matches will be played in CIT.

Everton will push all the way this year, they played us off the pitch, we were missing a few of the UCC lads who are on a soccer tour in the US.
Everton are a good passing team this year with great pace upfront

Super result for us yesterday played in shocking weather. We defended superbly all morning and kept the ball very well. Cant pick anyone out for individual praise. Kept our shape all the game and once we stopped Varian i think we stopped Everton. We got a lesson from Avondale last week and i think getting thumped woke us up a bit. By the talk of Everton supporters all week i think they thought they had nothing to do. Well deserved victory and roll on next week :):):)
