Fermoy 4 Mayfield Utd 2
A dominate performance for the home side. Two reds for Mayfield one in the first half for handball on the goal line, which resulted in a penalty and the opening goal. Second red in the second half, I think it was for a push not sure was it two yellows!! Fermoy had two goals disallowed in the first half and Mayfield couldn't seem to cope with Fermoy's set pieces. The second goal was a ball into the box and the away side couldn't clear it and Kurt Wheeler pounced to slot it home to complete his brace after scoring the penalty. Mayfields first goal then came against the run of play. A ball over the top to there striker, who's shot came back off Mick Devine but he cooly slotted home the re-bound. That was Mayfield's only chance of the first half but it counted. Centre half Leon Roche got his just rewards just before half time. He previously had a goal disallowed after ten minutes but just before the break he powered another header over the line to send the home side in three-one at half time.

The second half was more of a two sided affair with mayfield having nothing to lose and they passed the ball better and had no fear. Fermoy still pushed on with the extra man and had plenty of chances but they just were not clinical enough. The fourth goal was the move of the match with Kurt Wheeler picking up the ball inside Mayfield's half and he waited for a runner in behind. That runner was Kennedy and he picked out the corner of the net from inside the edge of the box.
Fermoy had more chances after the fourth goal but Mayfield piled most of the pressure on. The away side pulled a goal back with twenty to go, a free kick drifted in to the back post was headed back across goal then nodded into the back of the net. Next came the second red card of the game with ten minutes left, the right back got the line and it was probably a bit harsh. The game fizzled out after this. Fermoy obviously the happier but they could have scored so much more had they been clinical.

That can't be true can it, after all the hassle last season, thought the basic requirement for a secretary this season was to be literate. Sure they will probably go to the courts of human rights again this season saying how wronged they were.

Not 100 % if this is true but I heard that rumour too. They have already lost 3 points to Blarney for the first game of the season for not having players registered, match was called off the day before by the league

Congratulations to UCC for winning last years league. It is a fabulous achievement. A lot of credit due to them for waiting until after the game against Avondale to raise their appeal. They must be singing the whole way down college road tonight in celebrations. Me arse

Lads, I thought the point was the player on question was not illegal cos the league cut his namesake in error? Surely it should change things at the other end? UCC getting it a bit rough when the league at fault?

UCC had No balls to appeal the decision when Everton got the points , but all the balls in the world after they beat a 2nd string dales side a few weeks after !! Absolute disgrace how the msl is treating 1 of the best clubs to ever come out of cork !!

I said on here 3 months ago that this would be the only outcome..the entire league standings for last year should be null and void.well done to the msl for allowing this to happen.passed the buck at the time instead of owning up to the original mistake and now I'm afraid to say this isn't the end of matters either

A joke. Avondale were the best team in the league last year and were deserving champions. Have now heard that Leeds have been docked three points for not registering team on time at start of this season. Had receipts to prove forms were in on one week prior but MSL saying they didn't receive them on time.

University College Cork have won their appeal against Leeds’ fielding of an ineligible player and, as a result, been crowned Munster Senior League champions for the 2013/14 season.

Summary Of The Decision
– Leeds fielded an ineligible player against UCC. Leeds forfeit the match and UCC are awarded a 3-0 victory.
– Total points awarded to each team be adjusted. Leeds finish with 17 points. UCC finish with 42 points (one ahead of Avondale).
– Munster Senior League’s declaration that Avondale are Munster Senior League Champions 2013/14 be revoked with immediate effect.
– UCC declared as 2013/14 Munster Senior League Premier Division champions.

The following is taken from the official arbitration document, with the key points in the decision underlined.

The arbitration hearing took place in Dublin on October 14th, with representatives from UCC, the FAIAC, the Munster Football Association, the Munster Senior League, Avondale, and Leeds. Also present were Eoin Traynor (acting FAI Disciplinary Regulations Officer) and Paddy McCormack (FAI Secretariat).
Section 7.2 of the ‘Award of the Arbitrator’ document states that although Avondale United may have fielded a weakened team during their last game of the season, believing the league had already been won, they were “or should have been aware of the possibility of a protest by UCC Soccer Club”. The Arbitrator goes on to say that “it would be wrong to deny UCC its rightful league title.”

Background To The Story
Here is an excerpt from an earlier Pundit Arena article on the story:

As reported by Pundit Arena on May 31st, the Premier Division of the Munster Senior League (MSL) has descended into farce as a result of the MSL’s decision to award Everton three points (http://www.punditarena.com/football/rbarrett/munster-senior-league-embroiled-controversy/) due to Leeds AFC playing an ineligible player, and their failure to treat Leeds’ other opponents in the same manner, namely University College Cork (UCC).
UCC finished in second place in the Premier Division, one point behind winners Avondale. However, the Students drew 1-1 with Leeds earlier in the season in a game that involved the ineligible player and believe they too should receive the full match points. This would see UCC finish ahead of Avondale with a total of 42 points.
See the article in full here. (http://www.punditarena.com/uncategorized/rbarrett/munster-senior-league-controversy-latest-developments/)
League Champions
Avondale had originally been awarded the Munster Senior League trophy, but it is now set to rest in UCC for the remainder of the season. The final standings for the 2013/14 season are as follows:
1. University College Cork – 42 points.
2. Avondale United – 41 points.
Credit must go to Kieran Nestor, John MacCarthy, Peter Quigley, Conor Barry and Ger O’Sullivan of UCC who never gave up throughout the arduous process.

I think it is a disgrace that UCC waited until after the avondale match to lodge the appeal. If they had done so before the match then I'm sure avondale would not have taken the game so lightly. Also the Blazers in the MSL should be held accountable for the farce that this has turned into. No way should a number of them be allowed continue in their uncontested roles. Sepp blatter would fit in nicely with what is there already.

Beano, as far as I know the league cut the wrong Leeds player and admitted it. Leeds got relegated too and are we forgetting that? Should they have lost any points?
I dont see anything wrong with the College pursuing any avenue that is legally open to them.

I saw a Dale player this morning - "Best of luck to them calling out to my house for my Medal".

Leeds maybe incorrectly relegated, UCC with tarnished title, Dale with tarnished title. And no-one resigned. Blatter about sums it up the best!!
