Avondale and Rockmount tonight in the Quarter Final of the O'Connell Cup.
Mount should be well sobered up, Avondale? Probably not.

Avondale Utd 4-0 Rockmount, both teams not quite at full strength.
Chris O'Shea got a great hat trick and Colin O'Shea got goal of the
season..some strike into postage stamp.
Away to Mayfield on Sunday in the semis.

When we celebrate, we celebrate properly....;)

Bouyant Dale tore us apart. No answers, no excuses (except the 8 missing!!). That last goal was hit right on the money all right, as sweet as you'll see. Season over two weeks ago for Mount on this showing. More goals left in than in the last six months or so of the season. Says it all really.

After the demolition of the Mount, Avondale drove past Mayfield 3-1 in the semis and then in the final against Blarney, it finished 1-1 AET, after a scoreless 90 minutes, Dales equaliser coming in stoppage time at the end of ET. Avondale reserve keeper Kieran Buckley Barry then proceeded to save 3 penalties, and be named MOTM, as Dale won 3-0 on spot kicks. Another cup to keep the other one company.
Heres to next season.

gonna be any major moves this summer do we think?? Anybody heard anything

Clifford
05/06/2007, 11:10 PM
Heard a couple of Mount rumours, but until they are sealed I'm saying nowt!

Except that it won't be Stevie Ireland or Nigel Reo Coker or even Jonathan Coker.

Heard the college might get a couple of young guys just starting college to come on board with them! Heard have played at a good level with Ireland and been on trials across the water.

Douglas Hall may lose a couple with Harris gone.

Also heard Cliff might be moving over to help out Razor and support Dale?? any truth to that

Eh? Not while my arse looks downwards.

Some result for Hall against Ramblers in the cup. Good work.

Back of the Echo saying that 3 Mount & 3 Dale players have been selected for the Ireland squad
Knew about Spratty & Rob O'Mahony but didn't know Brendan O'Connell had signed for Dale?
Weldon, Hoey & Beech for the Mount, Didn't Hoey have a broken leg Cliffy?

BobbyBoy

I asume they ment Brenden from CC or Do they mean Beezer from Douglas Hall (After his cup game)?? or is there another Brendan O'Connell from Avondale??

Strange to see Ken Hoey there hasnt played in awhile and also i would consider Weldon a surprise

Morning all,

Ken Hoey was almost fit when I last saw him six weeks ago so he's more than likely ready again, as the FAI Intermediate player of the year I assume he's a shoe in to be selected when fit, that's a no brainer - one of the best players I've ever watched at this level who hasn't gone into LOI or abroad.

Welly has been in the squad for the last year BB so don't see why your surpried at that. An exceptionally consistant centre back, unbelievable in the air. One of the best players I've ever watched at this level who hasn't gone into LOI or abroad.

Beech as usual is the first name on the squad. One of the best players I've ever watched at this level who hasn't gone into LOI or abroad.

Nice party line Cliffy. Willie is still the main man though.
Gerry mustn't have based his selection around the Intermediate Cup Final cos Dales 3 players consist of a striker who was suspended for the Intermediate Cup Final, a chap who played only the 2nd half and a chap who wasn't even an Avondale player at the time, who got relegated with his team and is still selected ahead of the Man of the Match in the aforementioned final.

Rockmount and Avondale have been hoovering up players from other clubs into huge squads for the past few seasons forceing good players to sit on the bench when they could be playing regularly with some of the 'lesser lights of Cork Soccer'. Is this done to keep the other clubs down?

It seems Avondale feel the need to have two amateur internatonal keepers on their books. Brendan O'Connell was recently signed from relegated Corinthians and Dave O'Keeffe was capped last year. They also have another keeper who was on Cork City's books if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe JC is going for a revolutionary defensive strategy for next season or can someone explain to me what's going on?
Nice to have competition for places but this is taking the p*** ...
Any comments Razor? :ball:

I didn't know BOC had signed until I saw the Ireland squad in the Echo last week.

Strange alright but if they want to battle it out amoungst themselves to see who is the better keeper let them have at it!! Cant see them all staying if what Shilts is saying is true!!

Any thing happen with Mount??

Did mayfield lose a few??

The new set upo of leagues should make for a better standard in the first division, hopefully it will work as a better feeder to the preimer and we can keep the standards up there high.

A few irons in the Mount fire, nothing confirmed so nothing to say - Mayfield bound to lose a few to the Prem clubs.

Dale keeping set up strange indeed, when I first saw Dave the save I wondered about him, but the more I see of him the more I understand what he's got to offer. Very surprised by them adding such a good keeper to the MOTM in the Intermediate cup final and the handy Buckley Barry. I would assume neither would be satisfied to sit on the bench.

No idea what's goin on at Kinsale, what's the word on the street?

This Avondale goalie thing is giving me enough to cope with, what's goin on Razor? I read on the Ramblers section on foot that he's playing with them tomorrow night, I assume Dave the Save is Dave the Save as I know it?

Apparently that is true Bobby, by all accounts he's a cracking player.

Almost all of last season's Rockmount squad are back for more punishment. The Deasy brothers may sign up, Michael has already I'm sure. There are one or two other cracking new boys, but I'll keep Mum until more unfolds. Suffice it to say that that I'm very very excited about the lads coming in.

Going off the topic of players i heard that the cork based eircom league referees will not be reffing in the MSL this season. That means the league will be without Buttimer, Mcnally, Hennessy, Kelly x 2, Deady, Callanan. Shame if its true.

Don't play with em, follow em all over the World and back again. Cummins looks decent indeed but will struggle like all of them to get into a starting
11. Wilshaw looked good the other night as did Robbie Deasy. Beat Mallow
3-0 in a friendly, lined out without Byrne, Weldon, Hoey, Beechinor and about three others. Tough team to get into this season, can't wait for it to start.

BobbyBoy

It'll be hard to keep the likes of Cummins and Wilshaw out of the team, and if they are it'll be difficult to keep them happy enough to stay! Is there any news on Ray O'Leary?

The leagues this year will be great, the standard in the 1st division should be higher than its ever been with the likes of Mayfield, Tramore, Ring Mahon and Cors.

Rockmount should have it easy this year, unless the likes of Avondale were able to sign a few players up. I think that Douglas Hall are in with a shout this year too looks good at times last year and have made some decent signing.

That's the balancing act ahead all right BB, Billy has got his work cut out. Reality is though that once the season get's going I'll bet there is rarely any week where any team has their 1st 15 to choose from. It normally balances itself out over the course of the season.

Rockmount should have it easy this year, unless the likes of Avondale were able to sign a few players up.Not sure Dale will be a force this season, lost Hughes, Spratt, Hartigan, O'Keeffe, Derek McCarthy and Robbie Giltenan, thats a big dent in any team.
