The most I've seen of Galway has been driving through to the airport, and one match in Tuam.
However, taking a class at the University (May 20-June 4) this summer, so I'll be living on or near the campus for two weeks. Any tips on spots (pubs, historical, views, shops, streets, anything) I should check out? Thanks.

I dont live in the city and I dont go out there much, but 2 of my favourite pubs in Galway city are Taffs (great for music sessions on sundays) and The King's Head.

There's one very decent rock pub in Galway, I'll see if I can retrieve the name for you.
Very nice city full of small narrow streets like in Southern Europe, many canals, colourful houses, ... Around the city you got a great coastal road and countryside, so try to make a roadtrip for sure !
Galway's my second favourite city in Ireland, my nr 1 choice being beautiful Belfast.

Galway is full of pubs and they are all great craic.. The Skeff can be a laugh too..
Everything in Galway City is very close together, so you don't really have to go far for anything..
boysingreen I live in the city so if you have an Questions just ask

Sally's, that's it !
With a drawing on the wall of eighties rock icons, including Bono when he still wore make-up. He looked a bit like me back then  I didn't realise at first the painting was Bono, I thought it was Dave Vanian at first...

Is a pub best avoided at all times.. A bit scary for my liking... By the way you describe yourself you'd prob fit in there actually...
Full of scary looking people wearing black with pale make up and rough hairy bikers in full leathers and thats just the women

sallly longs, second right off shop street, just at the aib bank, turn there.
kings head is a good pub, the cellar is a good pub with live bands downstairs as well. galway is always a good **** up for a few days/weekend. then you realise its the same everytime. but def the best place to go for a few days drinking.

I think it's "The Pucan" on Forster Street you're on about. If so it's actually closed for renovations at the moment (has just been taken over by new management) but should be opening up again in about 2 weeks time.

Sally longs IMO is by far the best pub in Galway (once you like rock music of coarse :D ). Other great pubs are Fibbers (E3.00 a pint Mon-Thur), the kings head, the quays, roisin dubh and taffees for nightly live music.
and of coarse Terryland for the football :)

here sallys was, but it plays awful muck the last three times i was in there, they wouldnt play any rock. these were:
friday, saturday and wednesdays, even the juke box is pretty crap.
doesnt compare to bruxelles even though the layout is far better. i think galway needs a proper rock bar like sallys in the early 90's

Everyone to their own Terry
and of coarse Terryland for the football and a vist to Kates after the game is a must :D
There's also some late bars around...
Foxs open til 2.00 on Fri & Sat nites (and til 1.00 on sun nites i think)
The Living Room opens Fri, Sat & Sun nites til 2.00 and The Cellar is the same.
And of course you have the early bar as well, but i wouldnt advise going there  :D

I remember yourself falling out of there not so long ago !!!
Anyway again IMO you can't beat "System of a down" blaring out of the jukebox while enjoying a pint and a game of pool or poker on a saturday afternoon :D

You will always get acdc, thin lizzy and obviously Metallica coming out of the jukebox every 4 or 5 songs in sallys

Good idea. Just checked the schedule, provided I don't get sidetracked I'll probably go to the Kilkenny City match on the 27th.

The Dew Drop on a typically **** day (weather wise) in Galway. Sittin' beside the fire with your bettin slip, and a pint watchin' the footie results coming in on Sky - was hard to beat.
For a night out though, Roisin's, up to the Livin' Room, then skullin a few in the Cellar, then over to the GyPO to laugh at the red necks and knackers dancin' and scrappin'. Ahhh, the memories....
