New thread for tonight's game, original thread renamed for discussion on the Denmark game only.

Would be expecting a more comfortable win than the away game. Like many I blamed the wind for our less than stellar showing then, so it will be good if they can confirm that opinion by scoring a few tonight.

I hope he goes with this team
Randy
Coleman Duffy Egan Stevens
Jeff Cullen Hourihane
Robinson McGoldrick McClean

Agree with the above, Hope O'Dowda sees some game time as well, Now is the time to check out our options in midfield, hopefully McCarthy and Arter are back in contention come September.

I'd like that team also but I want O'Dowda instead of McClean.

Would second that. I think McClean is at best a mascot for the Irish team. Massive commitment and passion, but no footballing justification for his continuing presence on the pitch.

I'd like that team also but I want O'Dowda instead of McClean. With everyone fit I think a front 3 of Robinson McGoldrick and Long would be a handful.

Harsh on Keogh actually who at this point in time I'd trust more than Egan. He may have been the guy nearest the scorer on Friday but he was blameless in my opinion for what was actually a very good goal. Maybe the runner might have been tracked but I think Coleman got sucked inside and made it to easy for the guy who crossed the ball to switch onto his right foot. But let's be fair, it was a great cross, great run and great header.

I don't blame Keogh at all for the goal.it was the midfield fault.
My thoughts are that egan is a player who can develop into the role and he has youth on His side. If we were playing the swiss today I would defo stick with keogh

Stop calling Darren Randolph - Randy. For F**k sake. This isn't a rodeo.

20 mins gone and playing rubbish so far against Gibraltar.

I don’t think it’s that bad. At least look like creating something, if maybe trying to force it too much at times. Duffy missed a sitter early on too. Hoping there’s at least 3 or 4 goals there if the first one goes in.

There's decent moments, but my overall impression is of s technically poor side with little movement, no real eye for a pass and an unwillingness to try beat the first man.

We should still win, but overall I'm worried

And as I type that, we score a jammy deflected goal. Yay!

Poor performance for sure. But the goal will settle us. We will have better players available to us in the autumn.

The tone was set from the kick off when we packed the left side in a clear pre-planned move (rugby-style) with McClean, McG and Stevens all charging forward before receiving the thump forward from the center half (think it was Keogh). Bizarre stuff against Gibraltar. Downright embarrassing to be honest. At least our 21s are playing some nice football

We really are missing a Wes type player to pull the strings in a game like this

brine3
10/06/2019, 7:29 PM
And it's Mick. The more people want e.g. Doherty or Crowley in the side, the less likely he is to do it. He's a stubborn *******.

Being a stubborn ******* seems to be the defining feature of an Ireland manager.

The wingers should be hugging the touch line to create space.

Their gk is terrible.

Robbie Keane would have had a field day against these in his prime.

Would expect more from Hourihane considering the opposition. Hendrick is playing woefully. Doesn’t look interested nor capable. Connor Ronan would pull all the strings u want against this outfit

Hogan and McLean have been really poor. Hendrick just lacks a bit of composure and quality. Robinson has been bright. McGoldrick is frustrating, some nice play at times but overall very inconsistent. Frustrating game overall.

Very disjointed half of football from us. Can't understand why we can't play at pace against a side like Gibraltar.

Robinson and Coleman are linking up well and Hourihane is doing okay. Hogan and Hendrick are playing dreadfully, from what I can see. Ronnie Whelan is having a field day picking out all of Hogan's poor decisions.

There's no perfect solution on the bench but I'd happily see a couple of younger lads coming in for Hendrick and Hogan. Cullen and O'Dowda or Maguire or Curtis.

Dire stuff, these boys are ranked 195 in the world (tied with East Timor), and we are struggling to create chances.

11 attempt on goal, 0 on target...sums things up.

Hogan and McClean should not start another game for us. Doherty for McClean please. Maguire for Hogan or else ODowda for Hogan and push Robinson up front and switch Doherty to right with ODowda on left. Cullen for Hendrick please. Robinson reasonable. McGoldrick his usual limited self but we have nothing better. Also, I want Egan on for Keogh the moment we get a two goal cushion. That is all, thanks

I can't believe there hasn't been a change yet. Hogan, McClean and Hendrick should have been hooked at half time. The pass out over the end line by Hendrick- woeful.

Robinson and Coleman look like they will do well together against opposition who aren't camping in their own half. They're on a similar wave length and both can beat the man.

Thank the lord for Robinson, the only bright spark. Coleman has linked well at times but hasn’t managed to play a decent ball into the box.

backstothewall
10/06/2019, 8:09 PM
Robinson has a trick but it's wasted out on the wing. He can beat his man easily but then he has to put a cross in to a box with 7 or 8 defenders already in it. Pointless
