Wexford got the point they deserved and probably should have claimed all three as they created the better chances against Cobh in Ferrycarrig tonight. Wexford started with Corey, Paddy, Hopper, Sean, Darragh, Danny Doyle, Ryan, Crokey, Emmet and with Jack and Danny Furlong up front. Game was open right from the start as Cobh won an early corner from which Wexford’s Paddy Cahill nearly got Danny Furlong away on a break with a sumptuous pass. Paul Hunt in the Cobh goal then had to grab a Wexford corner under his own crossbar at the second attempt before Wexford had two great chances when Danny Furlong latched onto a bad back pass by Cobh but his shot was cleared by the final defender and Emmet Nugent faced Hunt in a one-on-one but it was a tight angle and he couldn’t get it on target. On 16 minutes, however, Cobh went ahead when a good move sent Denzil Fernandes clear down Cobh’s left wing and his finish was called as an own goal by a Wexford defender. Two minutes later, Wexford equalised when more good inter-play between the Wexford forwards, this time Danny Doyle and Jack Doherty, put the latter clear and he finished past Hunt for 1-1. Emmet Nugent for Wexford was then sent clear again but Hunt cleared with his legs for a Wexford corner. A Cobh attacker then drilled a short punched clearance by Wexford keeper, Corey Chambers, over the Wexford crossbar before Cobh got their second when Wexford didn’t clear their defensive lines and Kenny for Cobh curled a low shot past Chambers into the left-hand corner. 2-1 to Cobh at half-time which was a bit unfair to the Wexford lads.
