Regulation win for WYW in Ferrycarrig this evening although manager Tom Elmes will be worried about the long periods during which Wexford had nothing like their A game in operation. WYW started with Maeve, Becky, Lauren D, Lolly, Doireann, Katrina, Aoife, Kylie, McKenna, Lauren K, and with Rianna up front. First goal came on eight minutes when Rianna Jarrett got onto the end of a cross from the right and rifled a shot to the roof of the net to give Amy Cahill in the Kilkenny goal no chance. It looked like the opening of the floodgates but nothing like that occurred as Kilkenny got more and more to the pitch of the game and WYW merely huffed and puffed to little effect. 1-0 to Wexford at half-time.

Second half continued in the same vein and, on the hour mark, Nicola Sinnott and Vanessa Ogbonna came on for Wexford. This improved matters a tad for Wexford although the second insurance goal still didn’t come for the home side. With 15 minutesto go, Blessing Kingsley came on for Wexford and went up front with Rianna dropping to good effect into midfield. With three minutes to go of normal time, Amy Cahill, who had done really well between the sticks for Kilkenny, blasted a clearance ball against her own defender leaving Blessing Kingsley to take a touch and hit home into the empty net. So, 2-0 to Wexford at full-time but more improvement needed by the home side. Best for Wexford on the night were Rianna Jarrett, Lauren Dwyer and Doireann Fahey.
