Going through manchester airport yesterday, just before the metal detector i took everything metal out of my jeans and put it into my jacket, took off my belt, put it all through the x-ray machine and walked through the metal detector which didnt go off. i was walking over to get my bag when i was asked to step aside to be patted down. it was weird i thought. whats all that about?

Randon checks. Every x amount of people get stopped and searched. Had the same as a staff member in the 3 major london airports. Always subject to randon checks. You just got used to it :)

Usually they ask me, "Is that a gun in your pocket?" before I get the pat down. :D

more like randy. he might have been a bit of a back door man, and fancied a feel, d'ye know if you were that way inclined they would be great perks of the job.

I had my Christmas presents opened at Stansted once. Crystal comes up funny on the scanner. Throw an Irish passport into the equation and you're left with a lot of wrapping to do . . . again.
They advise that you dont travel with wraped presents now. I was always a bit surprised at how easy it was to build up trust with the security folk. As a result, im never shocked by all the newspaper undercover stories about reporters posing as workers etc. A different world

Coming back from the match in Paris the asked me to take off my kneehigh boots as I was unzipping them they saw my stripy pink and black socks laughed and told me to keep the boots on..

I didn't know they did that anywhere outside the US.
I was also asked to take off shoes exiting through Boston Airport last year & i seriously thought guy was joking.
Everybody was made take off their shoes when I was heading through security in Dublin airport on Sunday morning. Thing there's a bit of over-reaction to that EU spot test thing that happened their the other week. Coming back through Heathrow was nothing compared to it.
