Dropped from 12th to 15th. Overtaken by Greece, Sweden and Turkey. Turkey and Greece both played Albania and Georgia last month and beat them convincingly (by at least 2 goals). Sweden won 3-0 in Bulgaria. While, we drew in Israel and struggled to beat China in Lansdowne. Can't complain. :)

we can very much afford to drop further in fifa rankins. meaningless twaddle.

it's our coefficient in uefa and fifa qualification tables that is important. thats what deteremines our seedings for qualification rounds.

Yep, FIFA rankings... where USA are 10th...

We know that we're better than USA, Greece, Sweden and Turkey, or almost at the same level.
So don't care about 12th or 15th, but be focused on the group, knowing that, apart from this table, we're like the first ten teams in the world since the last 18months ;)

We can only go better!
C'mon C'mon!

Would say better than USA, probably same level as Sweden, but definitely currently behind Turkey and Greece.
Like it or not Greece are European champions. Not only did they qualify for the finals they went on to win it, lucky or not, they did the business. Both Turkey and Greece are in the hardest WC qualifying group with Ukraine. I am just glad we aint playing them.

We'll be well up the rankings when we lift the world cup in 2006 :D

Greece won the European Championships, we didn't qualify
Sweden got to the second round
Turkey finished 3rd at the last World Cup, we didn't get to the quarters
States play loads more competitive games than we so, so do Mexico which is why they're usually ranked ahead of us

15th in the World - the FIFA rankings mightn't be 100% accurate but it's still great for us to be so high. Imagine if we were where Scotland or Norn Iron currently rest.

So, who are the 14 ahead of us ? Guessing (without looking at list) Brazil, Germany, Spain, England, Argentina, Greece, Sweden, Turkey, Usa, France, Czech Rep, Portugal, Mexico, Italy - hmmmm, no Holland there. Drop Portugal ?

Maybe not better than all of them, but:
*Greece won the EC with one shot per match, so they haven't a way of play better than us, I think
*Sweden is the only team, between these four, that could be strongest than us
*Ok, Turkey finished 3rd, but how we went out from that game vs Spain :(
*Finally I can't believe, if tomorrow there'll be a match vs USA, that you're scared of them

:)

The rankings are a load of w@nk - but christ it winds me up!!!

I doubt if you lose points for beating a team, especially in a friendly - so China game doesn't come into it, I reckon. But its suggested on RTE that we lost the points due to the draw against Israel. So they must have gained 3 points? Of course they didn't the gained one!!!. How the fcuk are the Czech Rep the second best team on the planet? . Don't even start me with the US... The English move up to 6th for beating fcukin' that bucket team in the north, and Azerbaijan (WHO ARE YA?) AAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH JESUS!!!

It is calculated by a weighting system, I think its over 4 years. I checked earlier and this month 4 years ago we gained 22 points. We lose points because whatever results we had to get them points are now lost.

did anyone read an article in the star this morning about the qualifying format changing for euro 08. the two host will automatically qualify and they are thinking of scrapping the playoffs. there is a meeting in estonia about this. most groups will have 7 teams but there might be a group with 8 teams and because we did poor in the last qualifying group we could be 3rd or 4th seeds.

I'm not too bothered about the seedings. Every year there are teams in an elevated seeding position who aren't deserving of it and teams who are seeded 3rd, 4th or 5th who are worthy of a higher seeding. It's all about the luck of the draw in the end. And we need to start winning away.
