A friend of mine in work who is on the Dublin Roller Derby team was telling me about their current crisis, namely that their British based insurer has upped their premium quote by over 500%, blaming Brexit among other things, and they're struggling to find a reasonably priced alternative (other insurers are putting their sport in the same category as skydiving, when in reality it's no more dangerous than rugby really).

It got me thinking about insurance costs for professional sports. Does anyone know what clubs in the League of Ireland are paying for insurance, and if there is a standard rate or discrepancy between clubs? And how much would it have to increase for clubs to suddenly be unable to pay? Insurance is part of licensing, right?

Also, if anyone knows of any insurer who has a good record of reasonable rates for sports teams, please let me know.

O'Driscoll O'Neil (https://www.odon.ie/) have been doing Junior and Intermediate clubs insurance for a long time.

Just happen to be Bray Wanderers sponsors, too.

As far as I know all the clubs are tied into taking insurance with Aviva by the participation agreement. Last seasons insurance was about €38,000 per team.
