UCD's eircom League Premier Division survival hopes received a boost with a fine 3-1 win over Galway United at Belfield this afternoon.
Former Shamrock Rovers and Kilkenny City player Richie Purdy headed home the first on 11 minutes.
David Ryan scored on 21 minutes to give the Students a two goal lead at half-time.
Midway through the second half Alan Murphy gave the Tribesmen some hope of getting back into the game when he made the most of Ryan's error in the UCD goal.
David Quinn restored College's lead two minutes later and Galway are now deeply entrenched in the relegation zone just ahead of already demoted Monaghan United.
