UCD boss Mahon retorts to Rico rant
UCD manager Pete Mahon has hit back at Cork City manager Damien Richardson’s claim clubs like UCD are ruining the Premier Division.
Speaking after Friday’s scoreless draw with UCD, Richardson claimed that UCD are not of high enough standard saying: “I’m not being critical but we’re in the entertainment business and if we produce fare like that (0-0 draws) people wont be coming anymore.
“You have to understand where UCD are coming from and I don’t agree with a 12-team League – it’s going to produce more games like that.”
However, Mahon countered: “We had every bit as much of the play as they did and I thought we gave as much as we got. I think he was a bit disingenuous.”

I'm just amazed Rico expressed his views in English

He'll be even more upset when he sees Mahon trying to outdo him on the verbiage front.

That's rubbish. What about the pitch, which in many reports was described as one which you couldn't play football on at all, such was the state of it?
I think he was a bit disingenuous.
Wasn't that what Mahon called Doolin during the spat last season as well? Bit of a double entendre insult there - likening Rico to Doolin!
Mahon can certainly give as good as he gets anyway!

They are just ****ed off that Bray and ourselves did not roll over and play dead and hand them the three points. Well sorry boys, we need points too and we are going to take them whenever and wherever we can get them.
We are not going to play at being crap at the back just to make it easier for yourselves and your immediate rivals to win the League.
People seem to forget last time we were promoted we stayed up for 9 seasons. This time around we intend to at least emulate that if possible.
Just another reason not to like Cork City.

Thats why the C(A)WKIES hate us too. When we were promoted they expected us to roll over and die but hey we forgot to read the script.
If youre not careful soon there will be a gang of angst, acne ridden 14 year olds waiting for all of ye outside the X. :D

Exactly where is the "rant"?
Did Breakingnews not print everything he said, or are you selectively editing him?
He blamed City just as much for the bad game, sadi we should have risen above the negative tactics and said that UCD played to their strengths and rightly so.
Of course, don't let facts get in the way of your paranoia. Go to the Cork City website, you can hear ALL of what Rico said.
And things are pretty bad when you have WUFC's resident moron joining in
the outrage fest.....:p

The whole breakingnews piece is above. 'Rant' seems OTT but when have headlines ever been understated?!

must be learning to read in blaland so...you lot seem to be getting the jist of the script now ;)
Doolin had a go at us last night as well in his interview saying he thought his side were much better. It's so laughable ! Other than there 2 gifted goals, our keeper did not have a single save to make. Also the fact that Bray spent most of both halfs camped in the Drogs half shows that he was just bitter that a club who has just been promoted and spent no money what so ever in the close season took points off his team - A team that he has spent serious money on and who are full-time.

Fair play to UCD, they have the right to play anyway they want and the one that gets the result is obviously the best option.
Rico has a bit of egg on his face after saying a few times on EL Weekly last year there there woud be too many easy games in a 12 team league and stuff like that.
The owness was on Cork to break down UCD's resolve and they did'nt manage to, it's Rico's team who faultered, not Mahons- how can he criticise Pete Mahon for that

 :p
That's a new one!
Onus is the word you're looking for! ;)
Think it's interesting to see that many of the (more rational) Cork fans are admitting that we weren't as defensive as is being made out. That coupled with the state of the pitch means this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. Personally, I thought the 10-team league produced more tight, cagey games than the 12-team, though Rico argues otherwise.

Presume after last season's antics you know enough to ignore everything that lad has to say? ;)

Interesting (or not, given the source!) that The Star's ratings (http://foot.ie/showpost.php?p=250837&postcount=7) for the match gave us 6 for entertainment and Cork 5...

Assuming those fickle brats bother to turn up that night of course :D
Partizan if you are in Belfield Park on Friday night, make yourself known to me. I'll be in the souvenir shop between the main stand and the sweet shop.
As one Yugophile to another I am sure we will have plenty to chat about ;)

CTID,
c u Friday night. :D
In answer:
Thats not an answer, thats just a claim.
Go and find the interview/piece where Rico said that "UCD were not of a high enough standard" for the premier division.
You won't find it, because he didn't say that.

Breakingnews.ie isn't the kind of site that misrepresents people too often if at all. If they published it the odds are he said it.
