Well i suppose a win is a win is a win.. The best thing we can take from this is that we finally did to someone else what's been happening to us for the last couple of games.
In all fairness we were lucky to come out of that game with the three points. It's a good job, (and i hope this doesn't come back to haunt) that they hadn't an ounce of fluency up front. For the best or second best in the north, by jesus they were poor as far as finding their forwards were concerned. They must have had 15 shots on goal and only 2 of them actually troubled Digger. Not suggesting by any means that we have another 3 points waiting to be collected in windsor, but if we take the f**king initiative and dont give them so much respect, well their nothing to be afraid of at all..

Finally. To the fans of Linfield, good on yee. Made for a good athmosphere. To the belfast lads that came into JJ's, fair play, football fans that wanted to talk football! And to the bois who were paraiding around the town today in their celtic regalia, fair play to yez all. We both had a good laugh at the get up of yee.

Yeah, thought we got a bit nervous at two nil up, almost as if we never expected such a thing, luckily enough our back four (five including Digger) were outstanding in my view. For someone that's taken flak Danny O'Connor had a great game at right back tonight. Paiso and Barry look better every game. Fair play to the Linfield heads who've kept me and others out 'til this time, a sounder bunch I haven't met in a long time!!

Well done Longford! Myler's finish was superb; you would know that he is a goalscorer from the way he took it. I have €20 on yee at 12/1 to win this competition so don't let me down!
The key game is Glentoran at home. If yee can win that I think it puts yee in the driving seat as Linfield-Glentoran games often end up in draws.

Well where is everyone - when we lost to Cork the posts the day after were flying, but very little when we win.
Got the goal early following early susatined pressure, and a great goal just before half time. In the second half Linfield had more of the game, but we had at least 3 chances to finish it on the break, all wasted. Linfield goal was very similar to Corks. All in all a good win, back in the competition, now roll on Friday.

Well done Longford, not the greatest of games but when you kept the ball on the ground you looked good. Best of luck in the rest of the competition.

well I would have begged, borrowed or stolen a win last night. Most of our good moments came when Myler was on the field. I'm very impressed with the man's overall play and his distribution.

The back five were brilliant. Digger controlled to box better than he has in ages. Paisley was magnificent. Deano was great. Super Dan a great game.

Barrett caused trouble but his control was shocking. Lavine, for me was poor. Should have left one ball to Kirby, layed another one off to Kirby and another to Baker. Bakers effort was brutal, but overall very pleased.

Linfield were not great. Looking forward to the Glentoran game. Linfield take a game of them then it's very open.

I thought the Linfield support was great. Felt a real genuine buzz in the ground which is rare.

An excellent result at the end of the day but what was with the Poor crowd as this was a massive game, If Rovers were in it they would pack anywhere with a game like that.

Linfield goal was very similar to Corks.

TV replays showed it hit off Deano's back.

The security overkill scared off a lot of families who would normally have come out, I'd say it knocked a good 500-600 off the crowd

I'm assuming that it won't be as bad for the Glentoran game.

well down Town on first win of the season! couldnt get to see the game after all, but from reading the reaction, great to hear about a few Linfield fans mixing with the Town fans in John Joes, that whats its all about...

could anyone peview the programme and match ticket from the game against linfield pleaseBanned for a week, in accordance with this warning (http://foot.ie/showthread.php?p=242315#post242315). That wasn't your first warning either, so next time it'll be permanent.

Saw nearly all the game and thought Longford were possibly a bit lucky to win.

Linfield had loads of possession but very few decent chances and Longford took the goals very well.

This group is set up nicely now for the remaining games.

BTW there's been some great goals in all the Setanta games so far:

Glens v Longford -Halliday
Shels v Ports -Byrne & Boyle
City v Shels -Behan
Town v Linfield - Myler

Anyone read piece in Irish Indo today from Gerry McDermott. Gives a very good impression on the club and the supporters. Linfield manager gushing in his praise of the Town. Funny that, our supporters more interested in heaping stick on our own players than the opposition!

A very encouraging performance from Longford and above all a hugely important morale boosting win. It seems Matthews has finally sorted out some of our problems and it was clearly obvious that a lot of hard work had been done on the training ground prior to this game. It was great to see Milo Corcoran and Brian Kerr at the game. But why a seat was also reserved for Peggy Nolan is beyond me.
We kept the ball on the ground and tried to play football at a high tempo. We started off with a flourish which led to Paisley's early opener and this set the tone for the remainder of the game. Linfield dominated possession for long periods but failed to carve out any clear cut chances. It was a great move that led to Myler's well taken second in first half stoppage time. It must also be said that both goals came at a great time and proved decisive in killing off the Linfield challenge. I thought the security on the night was a tad bit over the top. Four lads on horseback and seven or eight sniffer dogs were hardly all required. Off the field, the Linfield scum lived up to their reputation with chants like 'No Pope in Rome' and 'No surrender' and of course they didn't forget to sing God Save the Queen. Back to the game and I thought Danny O' Connor looked much more comfortable at right full than his usual centre back. A good performance also from Big Deano who from the beginning stamped his authority on the game and played some nice passes. Andy Myler was impressive and took his goal very well. Sean Prunty, however struggled to make an impact down the left.
A lot of positives must be taken from monday night and let's hope it'll prove the kickstart our season needed. Next up is Roddy's Rovers on friday night in Dalier! The hoops are in no great shapes with a very new look squad and if we play the way we can I am confident of victory.

Sure got to keep these politicians that couldn't give a shít about the club the rest of the time their day in the sun. Better than PK's usual stand by the entrance/chipper/shop all game when he bothers his hole...

Should be a bit of sport alright, three points would be a nice lubricant.
