There are 3.4 million roman catholics in the irish republic. So a pope's death is a big deal.
how many of them go to mass.how many of them are 100% true catholics?if you dont go to mass, youre not a true believer according to the vatican,if you dont accept the infallibility of the pope, then youre not a true believer.suffice to say about 99% of catholics arent true believers according to the vatican,so they are going to hell.
bull$hit the lot of it

No point arguing, for some idiots they would rather blame church teachings & JP for Aids rather than those running around shagging left right and centre.
Your knowledge of the developing world is astounding.
And I'm not explicitly blaming JPII or Church teachings. It's Church actions on the ground in Third World countries that are out of order.
For what it's worth I liked the Pope despite disagreeing with him on social and sexuality issues and on his treatment of women. I personally think that what he did for his own people in Poland plus his advocacy of better distribution of the world's wealth and his outspoken anti-war views are good enough reason to remember him with respect.

Well, people don't mourn according to the Vatican, they mourn according to the way they feel. And people's beliefs is what makes them believers. And who ever said that not going to mass means you're not a true Catholic?

Not as bull$hit as your estimation on the % number of catholics that go to mass if you ask me. Did you conduct that poll yourself ?

Why ? Because i said Aids was spread by people shagging rings round them ? Im no bible thumper myself although i do go to mass once a week if i can but this crap particularly from that gay activist plonker about the pope being responsible for the spread of Aids is a Joke. Its spread by sex, people having sex with multiple partners, if i remember rightly the church teaches against that, how the virus was actually started is also always brushed under the carpet too.

catholic church is conservatively estimated at having a total wealth of $1 trillion. land, art, property etc. i dont see that $1trillion getting spent on the poor.**** the church
ballstudent and dortie. I DIDNT SAY 99% OF CATHOLICS DONT GO TO MASS. READ MY POST PROPERLY FFS. i said i reckon 99% of catholics arent true believers*.that is assuming 99% of "catholics" have enough common sense to not believe rubbish like A:the pope is infallible, B:gays are going to hell, C: having a w@nk results in eternal damnation, D:having children outrside marriage is a sin (resulting more one-way tickets to hell) etc.
as for the mass stuff (even though it wasnt the point i was making),phuck all people go to mass.ive no facts to back it up but countless other studies and articles have shown mass attendance is at an all-time low. the vast majority of catholics** dont go to mass
*according to the rules/laws of the catholic church
**technically im catholic as i was brainwashed in school and baptised into the church against my will as a child.2 things which are fundamentally wrong imo. but i dont believe any of the nonsense the church spouts.
now in future read posts properly so as to avoid wasting my time
anyway im done with this discussion as talking sense to religious zealots like banging my head agianst a wall

What the fcuk is going on here.
This is a site for viewing other peoples opinions about football not about people squabbling over how religious they are or aren't. This is fcuking ridiculous.
I respect people's beliefs people's opinions and beliefs (except when they become ridiculous), and I respect the responses to this thread that are football related but I think that it has gotten out of hand. It has become a thread for people to take a swipe at opposing religions and religious beliefs.
I am a fairly religious person and I refuse to air my beliefs here. I think the original question was genuine and warranted a genuine football response. It didn't deserve to be disrespected by petty squabbles over religion.
If you people want to fightn over religious beliefs and connotations then PM each other and don't disrespect us football fans and this site by taking swipes at each other beliefs which are obviously very personal.
I will attempt to find a collective religious site for you lot to argue on in the future. If anyone has any suggestions please post the site address in this thread and we'll be done with this ridiculous display of religious manhood.
  !!Very Disappointing!!
