Apparently he has not spoken to Brian Kerr or the Irish FA anyway, and I am not sure if his Irish links are more distant than his grandfather.

FRANCK QUEUDRUE has admitted that he is not qualified to play for the Republic of Ireland after all.

It seems Queudrue, 26, has a great grandfather with Gaelic blood and that is not good enough.

Middlesbrough’s France-born full-back said: “Unfortunately I am one generation out — and that is not enough for me to play for Ireland.”

I actually remember that, so I was surprised to see all this being dragged up again.

Being an Irish person who has spent 83% of his life outside of Ireland I get kind of uncomfortable when I see these 'plastic paddy' and 'mercenary' comments being bandied about.

I don't see why, you say you're an Irish person.
You're not a French person who can't log onto French forums so you're trying your luck here. ;) :D

I couldn't find American Samoa on a map, but that's besides the point.

It won't be besides the point when you're late for training :D

this quote sums it up:

"Playing for Eire would never be a pride to me. But why not?"

We're ranked 12th in the world, most of out best players are Irish born or proud to represent the country. We don't need them.

QUEUDRUE CAN'T PLAY FOR IRELAND
By Ian Parkes, PA Sport Franck Queudrue's hopes of playing for the Republic of Ireland have been dashed due to the Middlesbrough defender making a mistake over his Irish ancestry.

Although born in Paris and with a France B cap to his name, Queudrue last week announced he would consider wearing the green of Ireland.

The 26-year-old claimed an Irish grandfather helped him qualify for Brian
Kerr's side, currently vying with France for a place in next summer's World Cup
as they are rivals in Group Four of the European qualifying section.
But a disappointed Queudrue revealed: ``Unfortunately I am one generation
out. ``I am very proud of my Irish ancestry, but it's my great grandfather who was from Ireland and that's not enough for me to play.
``When I was asked if I would like to play for Ireland, I said it would be an
honour for me to wear the Irish shirt and a privilege to play alongside the
likes of Roy Keane and Robbie Keane.
``Given the chance to play for Ireland I would have walked there. But it's not
possible.''
Advisor Garry Thornton confirmed talks have taken place with the Football
Association of Ireland, but their rules make it clear Queudrue will never
figure.
``Franck is a lovely man who always tries to be helpful and co-operative with
people, but sometimes he does find strong accents a little difficult to
comprehend,'' said Thornton.
``He did an interview on television last week and the Irish question was
raised, but he didn't quite understand what he was being asked.
``France have not shown much interest in calling him up, but he has always
been aware of his Irish family history.
``We did have some contact with the FAI, but nothing came of it. Unfortunately
he won't get the chance to play for Ireland. The rules are there.'

Well, at least he didn't keep referring to The Republic (a big plus in my view!)

First he can't remember where his grandfather is from and now he's claiming he'd have "walked" to Ireland. I know they say footballers are thick but this is ridiculous...

I wonder who he will shout for at our game with the French?? Can't wait for anotherThread to start on the next Irish 'Wanabee' ,maybe then we should not be too hasty in jumping to any conclusions on his irish career until the research has been done first.(just a thought)

I wouldn't mind but this was brought up before the 2002 WC and at the time it came that he only had a great-grandfather. Lazy journalism anyone?!

he also mentioned it to Andy Gray last year before a game so maybe he was trying to gain attention
