Where are obafemi and Connolly?is rovers kavanagh injured? Thought smallbone from Southampton who has been ever present in their 23s would be part of that midfield

Connolly & Smallbone both playing for their club U21 teams tonight in the Checkatrade trophy. Mystifying.

Finished 3-1 to Ireland, with Ferry, Parrott (pen) and Idah scoring in the second half before a late consolation for Bosnia
Match review here: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/24/2019/2023822?tab=report

Absolutely massive win, means a win against the Faroes on Saturday should be enough to qualify, and forces Bosnia into needing a result against the Dutch on the same day.

https://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/24/2019/2023822?tab=report The goals. Those bosnians must be well sick of us this group beat them in the under 17 finals 2 years ago then last season the 17s beat them again in the finals and again today.

finished 3-0, Parrott with another penalty in injury time. Guaranteed qualification for the elite round now, with the final game against the Netherlands on Tuesday deciding where Ireland finish.
The Dutch beat the Faroes 5-0 earlier in the week, and will need a win against Bosnia later tonight to have any chance of topping the group, whereas Bosnia need a win to stay in contention for the Elite round.

Just looking at that, eight of the groups don't commence until next month so it would seem possible that we could still slip out of the top seeds on GD?

Brilliant win though.

yeah, we might do actually. If you look at the draw for the last set of qualifiers - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_UEFA_European_Under-19_Championship_qualification#Elite_round - 9 points from the first round wasn't enough for quite a few teams, and some of them had a better goal difference than +6. We can't face the Dutch again, which is another positive.

Spain failing to win later on would help (as long as they don't lose by 4+).

Spain won 2-1, bad news for us.

To remain top seeds, we need six or more of the remaining eight group winners to have a worse record than us (GD +6 PTS 9).

It's not looking too promising for us holding on to our top seed status for this. There are two rounds of games played in the remaining groups and they will be concluded tomorrow. There are currently six group leaders on maximum points. If more than two of the following win their remaining match we will drop down to second seeds:

Scotland (GD +6 - last match v a poor looking Sweden side)
England (GD +6 - last match v Turkey)
France (GD +8 - last match v Belgium)
Greece (GD +6 - last match v Bulgaria)

Israel (GD +4) and Czech Rep (GD +2) can also overtake us but they would need to win by multiple goals against Georgia and Croatia respectively.

Our GD was +6.

Belgium and France drew 2-2 - https://www.uefa.com/under19/season=2019/matches/round=2000953/match=2023865/index.html - so France finish on seven points
England and Turkey have just kicked off, most of the rest of the day's games aren't starting until one

Greece and Bulgaria scoreless approaching ht.

Interesting situation in the Greek group....If Romania are 5 up on the Gibralterans at ht. If they can get another three, and Greece beat Bulgaria by 1, Romania will qualify as a best runner up.

Georgia winning against Israel. Turks just hit the post v England, and need to win by 2 to qualify themselves, but that looks unlikely.

No, the associations in each gruop usually decide between themselves who the host is

Sweden just gone 2-1 up on Scotland!

Do the top seeds get home advantage?

It appears not, although that would have made a lot of sense - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_UEFA_European_Under-19_Championship_qualification#Format

Elite round: The 28 teams are drawn into seven groups of four teams. Each group is played in single round-robin format at one of the teams selected as hosts after the draw. The seven group winners qualify for the final tournament.

Final standings: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_UEFA_European_Under-19_Championship_qualification#Elite_round
Draw on Thursday fortnight - the 6th.
We can't draw the Netherlands, having played them in the Qualifying Round

I'd take Hungary, Azerbaijan, and Cyprus
Worst case scenario is Serbia/Russia/Czech Republic, England/Turkey, and Belgium/Croatia
An improving Scotland in Pot 2 as well

Interesting that there's a few teams that were in the same groups in Pot 3 - England & Turkey from Group 5 and Ukraine & Norway from Group 8 - this doesn't give them any advantage since two teams from the same group can't be drawn together, and two teams in the same pot can't be drawn together either

Draw completed, Ireland facing Russia, Azerbaijan and Romania - with Russia hosting. Not the worst draw, considering some of the other groups

Fixtures to take place in March - Romania on the 20th, Azerbaijan on the 23rd and the probable group decider against Russie on the 26th: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_UEFA_European_Under-19_Championship_qualification#Group_1_2

That's a great group, only limited by the fact we've to go to Russia. We've missed the English and the Belgians and the Serbs.

Hopefully we're looking at a place in the finals now.

Groups 3,5,6 are bad, but 7 is an absolute stinker. An absolute stinker.

In a way it's a pity UEFA limit the scope of the Underage competitions, yet have all and sundry qualify for the Seniors....surely it should be the other way around???
