After scoring his third goal in four League One appearances tonight, I thought Curtis should have his own thread: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45178106

So he assisted their opening goal, gave away the penalty that levelled it and hit the winner on 87 minutes and gave a nice thumbs up to his marker as he was subbed off after that, who he had been goading all night - https://fansonline.net/portsmouth/mb/view.php?id=744692

He seems like a c**t but a good kind of c**t just the kind of striker we could do with, someone who will go on the field and frustrate the opposition. This is all when he crosses the whitewash, off the field he could be a real nice guy though :)

You could imagine a younger James McClean being the subject of a lot of that thread!
Also, funny to see them going down the road of an argument about the naming of Derry when it’s Donegal that Curtis has grown up in.

Although maybe it was Derry? https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/pompey/pompey-move-is-gunner-be-good-for-irishman-curtis-1-8583438
Interesting to note his mother is Irish but it looks as though his father has an Irish father too.

No, he grew up in St Johnston in Donegal.

I was sure that it was Donegal too. Something must have been lost in translation in that article.

Is Curtis looking increasingly too good for League One? He's put Pompey up 1-0 at home to Plymouth. His 4th goal and August only over.

He answered my question for me. He got an assist and another goal as Pompey won 3-0. It will be interesting to see what happens if he continues this until The winter transfer window.

Some tweets showing how McClean-esque he truly is. We could do with a player like this in the Ireland squad.

OK, let's not get ahead of ourselves - he's had a terrific start to his career at Portsmouth but will need to prove himself on a more long-term basis - and remember Eoin Doyle and Paddy Madden looked too good for League One for a while. So it's probably best that he focus on playing the full season and trying to help Portsmouth gain promotion - I know it's early days, but they are in an automatic promotion position so it looks like they're going to make a big push this season. At 22 years of age, he still has time on his side
On a side-note, he will be joined by Joe Mason, who has gone to Portsmouth on loan: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45375899

I think Curtis is a much better player than those players. For starters anyway, he's a much better athlete than both.
I do get your point but if he gets up a level then he's in good shape to contribute to our qualifiers in 2019, moreso than he would if he were coming into the squad off the back of a season in League One.

Scored a great goal today in front of an audience that included Mick McCarthy.
Had a look on Twitter and it appears the consensus is that he played brilliantly. There's also a consensus that he's a wind-up merchant in quite an aggressive manner.
A snarling, aggressive, left-footed, well-built, blonde lad that played for Derry City?

If there was any truth in it, it'd surely be a buy and loan to the championship arrangement. Can't really see any sense to it, except the Coleman-Donegal link.
My understanding is Everton's owners are flush with cash but have struggled to spend within FFP limits. With the rules being relaxed for 2020-21 due to covid, there's a potential opportunity. To use Chelsea's model, you invest in players who you don't really intend to play for you but you think can be loaned out and sold higher up the football pyramid for a profit 2 years down the line - and you use the income arriving in 2022 to fund transfers and wages then.
Obviously there haven't been any signs of this, so I'm sure it's just nonsense I've thought up but Curtis would certainly fit the mould of a player who has potential to double his transfer fee in a short time, given his age and the fact that even at championship level strikers are going for £20m+, so when the markets normalise a year or two down the line, a £13-15m fee doesn't seem totally absurd if he were to prove himself for a good championship side

The elongated transfer window might suit him. Brentford coming in to replace Watkins or Benrahma with Curtis would be a great result and plenty of time for it too.
If the past week has taught him anything it's that sticking it out in League One is not going to help his international career much. There are younger lads like Parrott and Idah moving into the Championship, as well as lads around his own age like Sadlier and Ogbene. Maguire is there too. There's plenty wide forwards like Long and Connolly in the Premier League.

Danny Cowley (Pompey manager) now says that Ronan will be returning to pre-season training with them, and will "start the season for Pompey and do brilliantly well – and off the back of that we’ll see what happens." It seems no club have made any firm approach, but ""We don’t tend to stand in the way of our players".

A goal and an assist today away against Oxford, but they still lost 3-2 after playing 75 minutes with ten men and then conceding in the tenth minute of injury time.
First league goal in 11 games, and only his fourth of the season. Hit double figures in each of the three seasons since moving from Derry, so this season hasn't exactly been vintage stuff.

The News (Portsmouth) notes today that there was interest in Curtis from Ligue 1 in January and that the interest continues, and that there has been no discussion recently with Pompey about an extension to his contract, which expires next year. He has had a quiet season, by his standards, but managed 8 league and 2 EFL Cup goals. The paper reports that Curtis and his partner, having experienced two miscarriages during the season, are expecting a baby in September, which may explain why he is happy to stay at Pompey for 2022/23.

Curtis is out of contract at Pompey this summer. Only 11 starts this season, and of his 6 goals, only one in EFL 1. He was recalled by new manager John Mousinho for the 2-0 win at Fleetwood on Tuesday night, for his first League One start since New Year’s Day. "He responded with a man-of-the-match performance, operating on the left of a front three in a 4-3-3 system" (as opposed to the other positions he has been allocated this season). However, he left the pitch a few minutes before the end. Mousinho afterwards revealed the attacker had rolled his ankle, potentially putting him out for a few weeks". (The News, Portsmouth). The injury could scupper any possibility of a January transfer to Blackpool -- some sources have suggested that Mick McCarthy would be keen to bring Curtis north.

Curtis is out of contract at Portsmouth this summer and had been asking his agent and manager to clarify his future (Hampshire Live). The uncertainty has been exacerbated by an ACL injury (during the game v Bolton) which has ended his season. "Of course, (the contract is )..not something that we’ll ignore and we’ll have to deal with it at some point. But the first thing for us is to make sure, medically, he gets all the support he needs – and he’ll have that now and for how many months it takes him to get back. ‘The medical support will be there and then we’ll look at the situation with the contract". (Manager Mousinho, 'The News', 6 March).
Worst mistake he did was sign his last contract when he did. Was in good form for Portsmouth and should have waited till the summer to see what interest from the Championship there was. Since then Portsmouth have went backwards

Curtis has turned down the new contract offer (less money) from Portsmouth 'for now'. He will stay at the club, unpaid, while he continues his rehab. Back running on grass and reckons he is a month ahead of schedule in his rehab. Out of contract now, but Pompey fans would like him to return, as they think Anthony Scully and Gavin Whyte are not of the same standard. (The News, 26 August).

Perhaps a short term deal at Derry City before going back to England in the summer. They certainly have the financial power in which to do so.
