But surely this will ne no good to you cos when Dolan gets another side you'll be there quicker than you can get to the Horseshoe 10 minutes before half time.
yeah...right

I suppose I'll get a barrage of abuse for this, but has it occurred to anyone that maybe Dolan himself was the reason we couldn't beat $hels?
Dolan built $hels into something they are not and put huge extra pressure on us to beat them. He had a team that were well capable of beating them, as evidenced by our results away to them when we should have beaten them twice last season, but seemed more focused on their team and club than on City and how we would beat them.
Some of Dolans obssessions did not help the team, at the very least.
I have to say though that it looked like he was enjoying the game last night, and I reckon he was thrilled with the result.I dunno, Patsh. That is not Dolan's style. In the Intertoto Cup, his way of psyching up the team was to put it into their heads that they were capable of beating the opposition, no matter what their reputation. I reckon that would have been his approach with EL teams too.
Maybe Dolan just had bad luck with the timing of his departure. Since last season, our young squad has grown another year older while a lot of the Shels squad are in the 27 to 29 bracket. We may have seen the last of the Shels golden era, and the start of a sweet spell for City. :)

Well Dolan went on and on and on about $hels, moaning and complaining about them one minute, saying they are the best, we are a long way behind them, we must try to be like them etc. etc. the next minute.
They are no better or worse than a few other sides in this league, and that has been proved so many times when we play them. You get the impression from listening to all the hype that they are a team of unbeatable supermen, when all they really have over other teams is confidence and the spirit to fight until the last second. How many times over the last few years have you seen a City/$hels games and came away thinking that $hels can be fairly poor?
As for the their "gloden era", $hels have always been bottlers when the pressure is on. With the money they are spending now, the so-called "stars" they have to keep happy and Nuttsy's honeymoon well over, this is going to be a tough season for them. You can see how they cannot take any kind of a loss, or handle a team that stands up to their thuggery. If they don't get a run of 4 or 5 wins together, things will start falling apart rapidly there.

and even these small whistles.
Did you hear the one about the baldy headed steward who came into the shed after the game and said whistles are banned, and if we bring them in again we won't be allowed into the ground for the rest of the season? I kid you not!!
NOW do you understand when I say we have the worst stewards in the world??!!

Hardly that unreasonable is it? I couldn't hear refs whistle half the time & think few incidents with the players too.

i agree with pete. you have to hear the refs whistle and they could end up having games postponed if the ref can't be heard

Shels are still a very good team. We only beat them 1-0. People go over the top when we lose and when we win.
Nutsy's honeymoon - what the hell are you talking about, hes just won 2 league championships in a row.

Can you point me to where I said $hels are not a good team?
As for Nuttsy's honeymoon, there was a much lower level of expectation on him the last two seasons. Now that he has gone out and signed the so-called "galaticos" (What a joke... ), he is expected to win the league/Cup double, the Setanta and go farther in Europe. That kind of pressure has never been on him before.

Every year shels are expected to win the title. The money they outlay every year means that the manager is always expected to win the league.
Thats why they've been the most succesfull club over the last 10 years.

If they don't get a run of 4 or 5 wins together, things will start falling apart rapidly there. The thought struck me, after the mega bucks spent by Shels' backers, and the truly poxy start to their season, Fenlon could get the sack. And who would be number 1 contender for the job? EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK

Is this supposed to be some sort of answer to my post?

Well, any "slump" that $hels go into, if they do get a slump, would want to last a long time for it to come to sacking Nuttsy. He has just signed a new 4 (?) year contract, which means that he will be around for a long time yet.
It's a bit early to say that $hels have had a poxy start, 2 draws, 1 loss and a win is not that bad. Their side just hasn't gelled yet, and they will/should be the team to beat when they do click. They still won't be a side we should fear, however.
As for Dolan (I presume you meant him!) going to $hels, I can see him at any other club in the country, but not $hels. Not for a good while anyway.....;)

remember a game against rovers in 88....last one before the cup final?? ..caused a lot of stoppages.....funny though cause it was a meaningless game. Remeber him on the cover of NMPP wearing a balaclave to conceal his identity and all......heard a rumour at the time the same fella "'worked in The liberty' "

It was strange, but it didn't really feel that bad losing to Cork last night. Okay, bitterly disappointed about our performance, but losing to a Rico-led Cork doesn't hurt as much as losing to a Dolan-led Cork. It remains a wonderful memory that in the nine games we played in his two seasons in charge, he failed to beat us once!!
Are you a shels fan or what??
I am very disappointed with your comments. A loss is a loss, no two ways about it. It seems to me that you are another one of those so called shels fans who spend more time worrying about Dolan. There seemto be a lot of them around Tolka at the moment. I can't but wonder who you'll be suporting this year Shels or every team that plays limerick.
We were disappointing on the night and a loss is very disappointing but the only comforting factor about losing to cork was that it wasn't in the league. I'd feel the same way if Dolan was manager. Every shels fan should.

It has come to my attention that Cork fans are constantly obsessed with the financial situation.
Question: If roughly 6,000 fans show up for every home game and, as you all seem to think, shels get less than a thousand then where is all the money going?????? We can see what shels are doing with their money yet cork attract roughly 6 times the amount of fans per game and their money seems to fall into a black hole.

Humm answer to your questions lies in economics
Look up overdraft and 3rd round or bust, if you're still unsure try looking at Shamrock Rovers
For City look up keeping within a budget

It still doesn't answer the question.
If you yield more fans EVERY game then surely you should be richer. It's clear to see where shels are spending their money, e.g. having the largest wage bill in the eL. Once again cork's money seems to be vanishing.
Where is it going???????????

Where is it going???????????
a few easy-to-understand examples
1. We don't own the ground, so we have to pay rent.
2. We don't have a bar, I'd imagine Shels make more from their's than from the gate
3. We have real travelling expenses, you're longest journey during the league will be coming down to us once, we have to do that journey and longer every second week

Not just that but when we have fundraisers and events etc we can, usually, hold them in our own facilities. This helps in two ways, one that it's obviously rent free and two that the people there will then spend extra money on booze, merchandise etc
A small percentage of a clubs income comes from just selling tickets to matches and that's the area that Cork are way behind in.

We make more in the bars then the gate!!
Where are you living... Its not even close.
Can any of you give me list of the players shels have sold or loaned or released? You'd think we had 40 fulltime pros at the club
Fenlon is not under pressure to get to the third round of the Champions League. You also want us to win the league and cup too? Thats a great one...
Where do you lot get your information from? The bohs message board is it ;)
He is under pressure to win the league and has always been. After coming second he was under pressure to improve. Thats just the way it is at shels these days. We have the squad to do it so there is no reason why he shouldnt. As far as Champions League goes anything after the first round is a bonus.
Even Ollie is not thick enough to assume we are in the third round.

Fund raising/advertising/sponsorship accounts for more money than gate receipts, and having two bars is a major, major help in that department
Couple of years ago Bohs released annula accounts which showed more revenue (don't know if was profit or income) from the bars tna gate receipts.
