You serious?

Are they not spread all over the world in different gaffs?

No better way to reform than a concert at Turners Cross :D

The only claim to fame of my old school was looked after 1/2 of the Sultans for 5 years.

Apart from the open of ,wheres me jumper ,they are a joke, utter rubbish :(

Lionel Ritchie
22/04/2005, 9:53 AM
...and apart from 'Where's me Jumper' what from their canon of work are you basing that considered and informed opinion on D12?

Great news, a great day for Punk, a great day for rock, a great day for Cork and a great day to lie on your back and wiggle your feet

It's my opinion, agree or disagree I'm not bothered.I have seen this band live a few times over the years and have listened to their music at many a party, and have yet to see why they were such big news at the time.By the way,why is it such a good day for Punk?

Ah you've just answered my original question -you know jack**** about their stuff.

Listen Lionel, you stick to dancing on the ceiling and don't tell me I know jack sh1t about the Sultans, just cos they supported the Sex Pistols in Paris doesn't make them Punk you know  ,do you know what Punk is?,were you around for Punk??

well my name isnt lionel ritchie and ill tell u that u know jack sh!t

Lionel Ritchie

wasn't even aware of the pistols support - but newsflash -your musical career doesn't have to somewhere cross paths with the pistols in order to merit qualification as 'punk' either y'know.

C'mon give me a reason why they're a "joke" and just to make it interesting you're not allowed mention the only sultans song you know.

"Was I around for punk" ...so when was punk then? If you give the V-H1 answer of 74-79 ...well then I was - but I was 1 - 6 years old inclusive at the time. ;)

Dublin12
22/04/2005, 1:31 PM
Look,I don't like them ok,chill out a bit,for me they were a novelty act with stupid songs titles such as back in a tracksuit and one about putting on flip-flops and going shopping  ,really deep and meaningful to some but not to me.You like them I don't,move on ,buy some proper music like Interpol or Nick Cave :D

Lionel Ritchie
22/04/2005, 1:52 PM
ah not bad ...one and a half more song titles.
I think it's you're the one who spat the dummy out mind not me- then of course there's the matter of posting on a sultans thread, calling them a joke and now a novelty act with scant detail to back it up ...so y'know ...take two ponston and call me in the morning like.

Nick Caves great by the way -interpol though -hmm not sure -if i were forming a Joy Division tribute band I think I'd call them The Swinging Curtis's

Dublin12
22/04/2005, 2:12 PM
Listen Pal,I'm in work ok and why are you so keen on me posting their discography, you can do a search on google and find it I'm sure.Am I not allowed to have an opinion on a thread on a message board or something?,can't you understand not everybody has the same tastes in music, thank god :D,you're not into Interpol..fair enough,I'm not gonna get on you're case about the Joy Division comparison,it doesn't bother me you think they are a tribute band,I like them ,you aren't sure,so what, thats music, there for all tastes,no need to get upset if somebody has different tastes.

Lionel Ritchie
22/04/2005, 2:26 PM
'course you're allowed have an opinion. To quote the mighty Housemartins "sitting on a fence is the man who looks down on opinion".

Equally I'm allowed challenge the basis of that opinion robustly as I see fit.

I'm off now -It's friday

Hiya Jim,

If you want to stoke up a discussion on the Sultans, why not start one here? Kinda unfair on Foot.ie's fledgling Music forum to push people off to other sites, wouldn't you agree?

I met up with Niall earlier this week and he confirmed that they are playing a warm up in ESSEX (where I live, bizarrely) in December followed by one or two weeks of gigs. There will be one in Dublin on 17/12 and one in Belfast on 18/12 and probably Cork, Galway, Limerick, all that stuff. If anyone's interested in hearing what he's been up to (which isn't a lot) they can have a look at http://www.phoenixfm.com/boa . Sorry my first post turned into a spam.

Hi, I interviewed Morty on Sunday as well. He said in the interview that Cork City are going to win the league, can anyone vouch the accuracy of this statement?

The interview is at http://www.phoenixfm.com/boa/ , and the Sultans have just announced their first UK show just outside London on Sat 19 Nov. More details can be found here: http://www.redpenguin.net/sultans/

For those not in the know, the late 1980's Cork City jersey m/f by Adidas as worn by the Sultans of Ping F.C. drummer on numerous TV and TOTP appearances when " Where's Me Jumper" was riding high in the Charts was a huge seller in England, to music fans of the band who were not into footie at all. For that feat alone the band deserve respect!;)

The one I really wanted was the shirt from Eintracht Braunschwieg from around 1991/2, when they were sponsored by a German industrial company and had the words "FRANK & WALTER" across their shirt.

I went on their forum asking where I could get one but they all thought I was mental.

Toffs is great but I fear this is beyond even them!

I've emailed them though so I'll see if we get any joy.

On the plus side, the UK date for the Sultans is nearly sold out. And how come I wasn't able to start an argument about the Cork City comment?
