Lads does anyone know if I can buy the History of Dundalk FC in Easons in Dublin?

What other clubs have good history books worth buying - am I right in thinking Rovers have one?

Derry have a few books out

The Liam Coyle story is in book and video form and many fans on here have bought it from visits to the Brandy.

We also have a "If you know their history" about Derry Cup history North and South of the border

Someone the other day mentioned that there's a brilliant book about following Rovers (Sligo ;) ). Have to admit ignorance on it -- does anyone have details here?

A bit of a history of Harps can be read in "Strings of my Harps" by Patsy Mc Gowan. It explains how he set up the club and tells of how great he is.

Still if you can get past that its not a bad read, and parts are quite funny.

Only problem is that it may be a bit hard to find, unless you join the library in Ballybofey :o

For more recent history of Dundalk FC try todays " Ireland on Sunday" - very interesting read indeed.

There's Only One Red Army - Eamonn Sweeney

It's about €7 or so and available in all Easons I've been in (Galway & Dublin!)

The first sentence in the book says it all - "This is a memoir not a confession so a lot of it is lies"

It is without doubt the best football book I've ever read - I've recently finished reading it for the 5th or 6th time and I still crack up laughing at certain chapters!

The story is pretty much of Eamonn Sweeney's memories of following League of Ireland - and in particular Sligo Rovers - up until their 1994 'treble'. However it could be the story of following any club - or at least any moderately successful club in the league!

I don't really know what else to say but it's definitely worth a read because you'll be able to relate to many of the incidents/anecdotes in the story. I could have written the book but I'm not half the writer Eamonn Sweeney is!!!

I definitely recommend it - if there's a better football book out there I'd love to read it!

Dont know about the bookshops but we have a couple of copies of the Dundalk
book for sale in the club shop in Mels (sorry, Golden Island Park)

"Strings Of My Harp" and "Theres Only 1 Red Army" are definately worth reading.

"Athlone Town - The First 101 Years" is full of stats, results and old newspaper reports/clippings, pics showing the clubs history etc.

Thanks Lads , I got the book at the weekend - it is fantastic, the guy who wrote it should be given a pass for life into Dundalk games, obviously being a Drog we have "opinions" regarding Dunds :) but credit were credit is due, this book is fantastic, not just a history of Dundalk but practically a history of irish soccer - fully recommend it to everyone and 25e - a steal of a price.
