2-1, mcnamara with two. one a great header from jason macartneys free kick and the other a scappy one from a corner.alrite first half, second half was very poor with the ball in the air most of the time but a win is a win. referee with a few dodgy decisions, that could of cost us. defence looked more solid then iv seen them in a while apart from the lapse near the end where kildare hit the post twice. bring on dublin city!!!!

Brilliant match. Great atmosphere, best noise the Showgrounds has heard in years. Nice to see the singing crowd back again. Singing to get the shed back :D .

Two goals in the space of six first half minutes from captain Michael McNamara turned this First Division tie on its head at the Showgrounds on Saturday.

Former Sligo GAA star McNamara had been appointed club skipper in the close-season and he led by example against Kildare.

The visitors had taken a shock lead through a first minute penalty from former Leeds United trainee Andrew Cousins.

But central defender McNamara leveled matters shortly before the half hour mark from Jason McCartney’s well-flighted free kick.

Six minutes later, again from a McCartney dead ball, he hit a second to put Sligo in the ascendancy.

Sean Connor’s side held on for the remaining hour to close out a winning start to the 2005 season.

Still, we shouldnt get carried away, still a long season to go.we had good starts under don as well but look where that got us,remember beatin harps up in finn park and the high we were on after that.we were soon brought back to earth with a thump.

It was a good result on Saturday. But the forwards werent really setting the showgrounds alight. Its good to see Flannery back but his fitness wasnt really bilstering and Alvarez wasnt really the goal machine that Conner was saying he was. The team seemed solid over all, from the keeper to the midfield but i'd say that goals will be our downfall this season cause our 2 goals did come from a center back. But there was a really good atmosphere there last night, the best i'd seen in a while especially from behind the kildare dugouts. Maybe if Conner can get the forwards firing on all cylinders and we can get turnouts like last night, this season mightin be too bad.

Fair play to the manager and team. Starts are always difficult for all teams and there is a lot of pressure on Sean to deliver. Things will always get better and it is great to get a win ub=nder your belt in your first game. By contrast, Kildare and others have not yet had that win si Sligo can pro gress from here and best wishes for the rest of the season.

:ball: ;) :ball:

I saw the post by Siempred's alter ego on the Kildare site. I am so surprised that he is not the Manager of Kildare....or Sligo Rovers for that matter...there is nothing that guy does not know about football. Was he ever in the running for the Kildare or Sligo Manager jobs? Must be something like that - chip on both shoulders. No doubt we will hear from him again as soon as we ever lose a game - a good incentive to keep him away!! Loser
