New Galway boss Stephen Lally believes his side at its best can win promotion. The Tribesmen have not even mounted a challenge in the last two seasons, despite making the play-offs in 2002. But Lally, who took charge last month, has told his players they are good enough to go up this year. 'I've had a great chat with the players and they know they haven't come near to reaching their potential yet,' said Lally. 'If I can get another ten or 15% out of them it should nearly get us promoted.'

Lally continued: 'It's vital to get a good start and if we do we'll be there or thereabouts.' Despite losing joint-topscorer Damien Dupuy to UCD, Lally feels he has strengthened his squad. Former club skipper Billy Clery has returned home from Australia while Polish midfielder Marcin Szymanski (Salthill Devons) and Kevin Williamson (Bohs u-21s) are other key signings. Exciting young midfielder John Russell is fully fit again following the shin splints injury that sidelined him for the second half of last season.
